Absolutely, how else could you explain christianity? It's founding principle is: jesus died for your sins, better do what what he says. Motivated billions of people.

Guilt is ultimately a poor motivator because it is so corrosive to the spirit over time. A better motivator is love: you do something for self or other because you love yourself or another, and want the best for them. Works better over the long haul.
