Wasn't it a Sikorsky?
That's not true. The first helicopter flight entirely without assistance from the ground was by a Frenchman called Paul Cornu on November 13, 1907. Cornu stayed aloft for just a few seconds. Another Frenchman, Etienne Oehmichen, became the first to fly a helicopter for a kilometre in a closed circuit in 1924.
