Around here we have the "tractor trailer accident of the day" on the news each night. It got so bad the cops sent up safety checkpoints on I-95 to make sure these vehicles are in safe condition. About half had some kind of safety violation, bald tires, brake lights not working, load not secured properly, etc. We also have them going to fast on exit ramps and flipping over. Others jacknife, and some of the driver looses control. Are these guys Unsafe Drivers or what?

Too many of them tailgate each other near entrance ramps, making it impossible for anyone else to get on the freeway.

Ever have a trucker fly past you in the winter when there's dry, powdery snow on the road? It's total whiteout. Zero visibility. You can't see past your own windshield for more than long enough to lose control of your car. I wonder if they even realize what they're doing?

A few years ago, a woman who lived near me was killed by a trucker who was flying down the road in the middle of a snowstorm, and couldn't stop in time. He ran right over her car, crushing her to death. That trucker is now serving 20 years for vehicular homicide. Personally, I think he should have gotten life without parole.

Last year 70% of all crashes involving passenger cars and tractor trailer trucks were caused by the passenger car.
