Proof by Ignorance

An informal fallacy in which lack of known evidence against a belief is taken as an indication that it is true.

This is one of the primary reasons that right-wing talk show hosts like Hannity and O'Reilly shout down all who oppose their prejudices. It is the equivalent of putting your fingers in your ears and repeating: "Nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah".

Example #1:

No study has been done proving that listening to right-wing talk radio kills brain cells faster than drinking straight Everclear while snorting Angel dust, but that does not mean it is not so, only that the test has not been done.

Hence, some people believe that drinking straight Everclear while snorting Angel Dust kills brain cells somewhat faster than listening to right-wing talk radio.

Example #2:

Since George W. Bush is known not to read at all, and also known to be unwilling to accept criticism of any kind, he has no idea how wrong he is about everything, as he has no reference point outside of the sycophants he is surrounded by.

Example #3:

Since many Republicans and right-wing talk show hosts only interact with black people by watching them be arrested on "COPS" and FOX "News", they think that all blacks are criminals, and get arrested every single day of their lives.

Example #4:

Since George W. Bush has absolutely no idea what is going on, he never changes his mind. This, to hard-right propagandists is used as evidence that he is "firm in his resolve" or some other nonsense that could only apply if he were not so overwhelmingly uniformed and ignorant.
