Did I spell that correctly ???
You were close minni, its Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Lol thanx MK, I thought it didnt look right.
Home Sweet Home!
Most folks in the north aren't reliving the civil war and don't look down on southerners. But, I've always found it odd someone from a town or state with a 2%-6% black population would lecture people from a southern state with a 25%-30% (some southern cities are overwhelmingly black)population about race relations.
There are some bright people in the south, unfortunately there are alot of unlearned folk there too regardless of race.
God willing, the ignorant commentator up there under the title Anonymous will never become a registered user.
HEY!!!! WHO THE FUCK IS USING MY NAME!!! I DID NOT WRITE THAT ARCHIE BUNKER COMMENT !!! WHY THE HELL IS MY NAME ON THAT COMMENT??
IF YOU CHECK MY COMMENTS ON MY USER PAGE YOU'LL SEE I DIDN'T MAKE THAT COMMENT. SOMEONE IS FUCKING WITH ME.
I believe you exarmydude. People have done that to me to on other websites before, too.
Anonymous, I didn't create this ballot to disparage and bash the South. For your information, i actually love the South and have relatives down there. The people are very friendly, the scenery is gorgeous (especially in Tennessee), and the majority of them are definitely NOT dumb. I like the South, and I like Southerners, and I particularly like them because many of them share the same moral and political beliefs that I do.
Let it be known that anonymous just used my name on the Feb. 21, 2005 comment that said "this question needs to be taken off this site!" That was not me saying that. *Annoyed by the hackers*
i wish i lived down south
I grew up in a warm home, with a mom and dad, brothers and sisters, cousins, aunts, and uncles who would come by every Sunday when we'd all sit down for a big dinner. I can remember well the smell of perculating coffee and bacon on weekend mornings. We knew all our neighbors and we would stay out all day during the summer playing together in the neighborhood. In the winter playing war with snow balls or street hockey. My mom made sure we went out and learned to socialize and not be afraid of the outside world. My father worked long hours but he always found time for his children. Every weekend, even though he was dead tired, he would take us out to eat or a trip to the zoo or something. He would often take me to work with him on the weekends he worked. This occurred and still occurs in the often demonized Boston,Massachusetts, far from the so-called "middle america" and "bible belt". And beware, the highest divorce rate in the US is in Oklahoma. The lowest is Massachusetts. Things aren't always what they appear to be.
Really? I always heard that Neveda had the highest divorce rate. That's what gambling your live savings away will do to your marriage.
I'm from Boston too exarmy and I have to honestly say that I find many Bostonians to have snotty and condescending attitudes towards southerners.Bostonians are somewhat cold people who think they are smarter than everybody else.Alot are very Marxist whether they know it or not.Don't get me wrong though,I love New England, the historical qualities and the NE vibe I haven't found anywhere else. It's too funny hearing outsiders trying to imitate the accent and I couldn't imagine the Christmas season in any other place.Honestly I say that they dish it out at least as much as they receive it.
The people who give Boston it's reputation for being cold and snobs are the huge college population. Most of these people ARE NOT FROM BOSTON or New England for that matter. Many are from the midwest and south. Nothing wrong with that but anyone who lives in the city and inter-acts with these people know how "difficult" they can be. I really don't like it when comments are made that people from Boston are "unfriendly" or somehow less American than someone from say the midwest or the south. It's bullshit. People from the city are typical big city people. Boston is a very densely populated, busy city and it's difficult to do daily activity that people from less crowded, less busy places take for granted. This often makes people abrupt in daily activity. Human Beings adapt to their surroundings. In this environment you must be fast on your feet. I suspect many people who complain that people from Boston or New York are "cold" and "unfriendly" come from small towns where the pace of life is slower. My experience with small towns is the people are usually overly friendly and polite. Often passive aggressive. I'll tell you this much, you'll never have to wonder what real Bostonians think of you. Like New Yorkers, they'll tell you right to your face! I like that. Maybe some people aren't used to it. As far as Boston and New England people looking down on southerners, etc., I'm sorry, but I don't agree with you. I think you'll find many people in the liberal college and University environments like that, but as I said, most of those people aren't from here.
btw: maxist (!) that's a bit harsh robo. For a "maxist" place it's got a first rate capitalist economy. Massachusetts and Boston is an economic powerhouse. Nearby New Hampshire prides itself on having no income or sales tax. A huge number of New Hampshire residents work in Massachusetts, and the vast majority of the states population and growth is along the Massachusetts border, because New Hampshire's economy isn't large or dynamic enough to provide for them. That says alot.
nevada has the highest divorce rate, oklahoma is in the top 3. my mistake. but all the highest divorce rates are in the south or west. southern baptist on average have a much higher divorce rate than catholics and lutherns. go figure. the northeast region of the country has the lowest divorce rates.
Exarmy,I see that you are really attached to your hometown so I hope I didn't step on your toes.I grew up in the Boston area too so I have alot of great memories also.As for alot of the snobs being outsiders I agree with you, they are however a part of the Boston scene. Boston and the whole area is a very competitive and busy part of the country and yes you do have to be fast on your feet to make it here.I don't agree however that the people of small towns are usually overly friendly and polite.I enjoyed that quality when I went to smalltown Maryland and Ohio, ... on company business.I do also like the tell it like it is quality alot of Bostonians have.Again, honestly I have to say that it's been my experience that alot of Bostonians/bay area people talk down about southerners when the subject comes up espeacialy the staunch liberal democrat types. We agree to disagree on that I guess. As for my refering to what I see as a marxist mentality here I am refering to the overwhelming support liberal democrats get by the voters for big government.I agree that Mass is an economic powerhouse but I think that that is largely attributive to the fact that there are many very talented/bright and wealthy people here. As for comparing Mass to NH I think it should be mentioned that Mass got a footing in many markets before NH did just due to the early demographic trends of this not so old country. Also, alot of the NH voters are former Mass residents who voted in the likes of Mass teachers union leader Jeanne Shaheen who is a tax and spend liberal who is responsable for a budget that eclipsed the ideal tax system that most native NH residents support. You could compare the likeminded (to Mass)rural states of NE to NH(like Maine) and see that NH is ahead of the remaining states away in terms of quality of life and development. That often gets overlooked. Anywho I like the bay state and I like alot of the people even though I am a hard right winger in this leftist town but there are some cliques in this place that I don't think I could warm up to.Anyway you seem like a good egg so I hope you didn't take it the wrong way.
I've travelled and lived all over and it's always been a pet peeve of mine regarding people from especially the south or midwest thinking they are somehow more "wholesome" and "American" than people from New England, New York, California, etc., Again, it's bullshit but it's always 'there". I'm not sentimental so that's not the reason why I defend New England,Massachusetts and Boston. This region of the country and this city is constantly bashed and alot of that too is bullshit. New England is no better or worse than any place else. Many New Englanders have died for America just like southerners. Soldiers from the City of Boston, propotionately, suffered one of the highest casualty rates in the Vietnam War. The State of Vermont has suffered the highest casualty rate in Iraq. Anyway thanks for the K robo.
Speaking of bigotry, I sure am seeing a lot of it against the South on here.
I'm from the Midwest so I'm not offended, but still, you shouldn't be so hard on those people down South.
