COMMENTS:
I see believeing in God equal to believeing in the easter bunny. I dont look down on people who do, I just think its a little outdated in this age of science, especially as religion has been proved wrong countless times in the past by science

have you read some of the comments on here?

It's not a group of people but individuals that don't respect others views. Why do people of certain faiths choose to look down on people of other or no faith? Some people believe that any thought other than what they believe, is simply wrong.

I know what you're saying is true, Tadema, but oftentimes, those who believe in religion are also looked down by those who believe only in science.

oic aya, I misread your question
by larrynelmira on Mon Mar 14, 05 10:02am [+]

I suspect a lot of generalization goes on which contributes to the problem:

* Some non-religious do demean faith.
* Some who profess faith are militatant with their views

Result? Many with faith look at the dismissive non-believers as representative. Many without faith view the militant believers as representative.

I agree with cathexis on this. I would add that I would never criticise someones choice to believe, even though i do not, but would seek to discredit anyone who used it as a tool to look down on people who don`t believe. Most people who do this are the weak sociopathic types who clutch religion in the same way they would clutch a good idea. they like the idea but lack the understanding. they deserve pity really but i`m not that charitable.

Prep, most scientists at the highest levels believe in God because the more they learn about the world and about the universe, the more things they realize they don't understand and attribute much of it to a higher being. It's the scientist wannabes who are atheists.
by Bostonian on Mon Mar 14, 05 5:45pm [+]

einstein was an atheist and steven hawkins is one too. that buggers that up bostonian

good lord ppl, y is it so freaking hard for ppl just to respect each other. i'm a christian and i could care less if my next door neighbor worships spider monkeys. i love them just the same. in the end we are just responsible for ourselves. we die alone, but we all have to live together so y not make the best of it.
by MrsTeague on Wed Apr 08, 09 11:13am [+]

BTW thank you Bostonian for the christian scientists comment...most ppl i talk to that have no faith don't seem to want to believe me on that one...and xxxxxxxx so i'm assuming now that einstein and steven hawkins are the speakers for the entire science community. i wonder if they knew/know of their responsibilities as spokesmen!?!
