I would prefer to go to heaven rather than stay in a vegetable state. Either way you look at it though, keeping someone alive on a machine with no hopes of recovery seems to fit into the category of (playing God) just as much as the use of stem cells. Death is natural,, and I don't believe that we should fear it. Keeping someone alive via machine in a vegetable state with no hopes of recovery just seems so inhumane to me.
I agree. This whole thing is sickening; the politicians coming out of the woodwork don't care about her, they just care about what the situation represents. It's definitely inhumane.
^If you really think about it, dieing rather than staying in a vegetative state would be better on your loved ones as well. Rather than feeling sorry for you for all those years and causing all that emotional trauma, they could eventually move on and feel a sense of peace knowing that you are in a better place.
Yea, I agree with you as well, it is very sickening
someone in my family was on life support for only few hours, and that decision did not have to be made because she still passed, but my feelings, as long as the person is alive there is hope, once they are gone, that's final. I think you almost have to be in situation of the family to really know what you would do. As for yourself, if that is your wish, make sure you have a living will stating that.
with terri Schiavo, I hear there is controversy as to whether she really said she did not want to be on life support or not.
I think the bigger question now is should big brother be getting involved to such a degree
I'd much rather die. My husband and I just got the paperwork to sign living wills because of this. It's a simple thing to do.

Your subquestion is brilliant. I'd say YES, do what you can to save her with stem cells. But the very politicians who want to keep her plugged in would NOT want that.

Unfortunately, stem cells can't replace brain tissue, memories, etc. Otherwise, that would be great.
I would definitely endorse the use of stem cells if they were effective. However, if I really were in a permanent vegetative state, and if my brain decayed the way Terri Schiavo's supposedly did, it wouldn't really matter what happened to me because I basically wouldn't have a brain.
