DOES THE "SQUAWK" FUNCTION TAKE AWAY FROM THE REST OF THE SITE?

[+] ballot by LCD
created Wed Mar 23, 05
There are some intereseting questions and postings that are being ignored, mainly because people just prefer to squawk, and do nothing else. Is it taking away from the main purpose of the site? I am not proposing taking it away, but I am beginning to think putting it on every page may not be the greatest idea. Your opinion please.

no, it adds to it, by enhancing the site. 9
yes, it is taking away from the rest 8

And I like having it on every page, cuz I like knowing who's on.

It does draw interest. Paradoxically, limiting it may worsen the problem ... if I have been interacting on Squawk, I'll still roam (behind the scenes) but may be check ballots less often because Squawk is not accessible there.

I like it a lot, because then I know who is on. It also keeps me surfing on LO.com because the damn thing doesn't have an automatic refresher; I have to keep clicking on LO links to get the squawk moving!

I still make and comment on ballots. It's two totally different types of entertaiment!

So we are making less ballots...That may be that the well of creativity is a bit dry.So why not inspire & delight with a bit of gossiping & word play in the squak box?
So far everyone has been polite & welcoming. Its a nice change.

Yes, I think so. Since that squawk stuff appeared people aren't making as many ballots as they use to.

I like it on all the lo pages yet not on B&W. I like that fewer ballots are made, too. It reduces the repeats without keeping us from the site altogether. A completely different topic, but, how about linking our ballots, comments and choices on our lo userpages along with our lo contributions and vice versa so we don't have to keep switching sites when we want to follow up on something?

Ok what I think squawk has done is bring people on the site into a face to face situation where people have to react on their feet and it gives people a better impression of who people are. I think it would be better if it could be opened on a seperate page (which you could till i pointed it out and lcd stopped that option boo hiss) I think its unfair that superusers get a better display than none because its hard to read and awkward to update. and lets face it unless it actually causes a problem for the site why should it be restricted? Since using it I have felt compelled to add to lo.com and certain ideas have come from conversations for new ballots. It hasnt limited my my browsing and commenting at all. and to be honest its allowed me to understand certain people better. not all unfortunately but theres always hope.

No, it helps you to learn things about other users you can't get in ballot form.

Ofcourse it's taking away from BestandWorst, there have been a few instances where I was arguing on sqauwk only to then make the argument into a ballot to see what others think about the subject.

LCD created an entire BLOG site where people can argue about anything and after over a year of arguing with these nuts, we fianlly had the chance to really get to know eachother with the Squawk. What I mean is, it's LCD's fault.
