COMMENTS:
Jeb should fight against the Texas law that Bushy enacted when he was governor that allows the plug to be pulled on people who can't pay their medical bills. Compassionate conservatism, indeed.
I think that's called being a compassionate person, not trying to score point with the people. Let's all start on Jeb Bush now for trying to a human being by keeping the courts and her asshole husband from starving her to death.
Or maybe they should handle it like the Elian Gonzalez situation, and have storm troopers roar into the hospital, kidnap Schiavo, but then take her directly to the White House, so Bushy can put her on display.
So, you're a compassionate person if you starve poor people in Texas, but an asshole if you do the same thing to middle class people in Florida. Sound like compassionate doubletalk, to me. Or the start of Bushy's brother running for president.
but Runyon, there are many many people that he could step in to and save and have a better shot at being successful, why chose her unless for the exposure? And you say "to keep the court form starving her" when the line of the executive branch and judical branch is skewed, then you have a dictatorship. The courts ruled that her wish was to die, who is Jeb to counter that?
it just made national head lines when all the state appeals were exausted, but he has been fighting for her life for years
your right Larry, and Jeb stepped in when the camera was fixed on her day and night.
sorry I misread you comment. I lived in Tampa for five years and never heard this story of her, nor had I ever seen him on camera regarding anything like this.
According to the Tampa Tribune he didnt get involved until 2003 when this was already in the news.
I don't know, i am not that much into that part of the political part of it. I just see Jeb Bush as trying to help save her life, just like i would do. Terri's husband should have no rights over her. He has a common law wife and two kids with another women. Why doesn't he just let it go and let her parents take care of her? This has got to be ripping her parents hearts out, and then on top of that Michael is keeping them away from her where they cannot even hold their own daughter that Michael and the courts have sentenced to death. Imagine how that must feel, they gave birth to her not him, he doesn't give a shit about her.
I esecially like the fact that Jeb Bush tried removing Judges from this case that ruled opposite of what he wanted.
runyon, how do you know it wasn't her wish to die if in this state?
26 August 2003: Florida Governor Jeb Bush asks court to appoint new guardian for Mrs Schiavo; court does not act 21 October 2003: Florida's lower house passes a law giving Jeb Bush the power to order doctors to feed Mrs Schiavo - the law is known as "Terri's Law" 4 October 2004: Jeb Bush files motion for rehearing of Mrs Schiavo's case 1 December 2004: Jeb Bush asks US Supreme court to accept the case for review 25 January 2005: US Supreme Court rejects Jeb Bush's appeal to change ruling
How many people on here that IF YOU lived in Flordia and one of your children was in the same situation and they had no living will, only hear say by their spouse, and they tried to pull the plug on your child, tell me thas if Jeb Bush could stop it from happening, you would not go to him for help. Can you say you wouldn't?
like I said above, 2003. a year and a half, and when he entered this, it was already a huge story.
Who is more likely to know her wishes of wanting to be allowed to die, her husband or family? most people it will be the spouse, but he wasnt the only one that testified she would want to die, friends did as well which is why the courts ruled 1)she is in a persistent vegetative state 2) she wished to be allowed to die.
yeah, but if you look at the history, it was not until all was exhausted before he was asked to step in
25 February 1990: Terri Schiavo collapses at home November 1992: Michael Schiavo wins case against doctors he accused of misdiagnosing his wife; awarded $700,000 for her care and $300,000 for himself Terri's parents insist that she is capable of human interaction 29 July 1993: Schindlers file petition to have Mr Schiavo removed as Mrs Schiavo's guardian; case later dismissed May 1998: Mr Schiavo files petition to remove Mrs Schiavo's feeding tube 11 February 2000: Judge Greer rules feeding tube can be removed 20 April 2001: Schindlers win a stay to exhaust appeals 23 April 2001: US Supreme Court refuses to intervene 24 April 2001: Feeding tube removed from Mrs Schiavo 26 April 2001: Judge orders doctors to reinsert tube 22 November 2002: After more hearings, Judge Greer rules there is no evidence that Mrs Schiavo has any hope of recovery and orders tube to be removed on 3 January 2003 13 December 2002: Judge Greer stays order to remove feeding tube to allow appeal Terri's husband Michael insists she would have wanted to die 6 June 2003: Appeal court upholds Judge Greer's ruling 26 August 2003: Florida Governor Jeb Bush asks court to appoint new guardian for Mrs Schiavo; court does not act 17 September 2003: Judge orders feeding tube removal on 15 October 22 September 2003: Parents petition Federal Court 15 October 2003: Doctors remove Mrs Schiavo's feeding tube 21 October 2003: Florida's lower house passes a law giving Jeb Bush the power to order doctors to feed Mrs Schiavo - the law is known as "Terri's Law" 22 October 2003: Doctors start giving fluids to Mrs Schiavo and a day later her feeding tube is reinserted 30 October 2003: Michael Schiavo asks Florida Court to strike down Terri's law as unconstitutional 6 May 2004: County Court rules that Terri's Law is unconstitutional and a violation of the right to privacy 23 September 2004:Florida's Supreme Court strikes down Terri's Law 4 October 2004: Jeb Bush files motion for rehearing of Mrs Schiavo's case The case has bounced back and forth between courts 1 December 2004: Jeb Bush asks US Supreme court to accept the case for review 25 January 2005: US Supreme Court rejects Jeb Bush's appeal to change ruling 23 February 2005: Judge extends a last-minute stay and orders that doctors must wait for a further court ruling before removing Mrs Schiavo's feeding tube 25 February 2005: County Court judge issues a three week stay 12 March 2005: Michael Schiavo refuses an offer of $1m (£520,000) from a Californian businessman to keep his wife alive 16 March 2005: Florida Appeals Court refuses to block removal of Mrs Schiavo's feeding tube and sets 18 March 2005 as the day the tube will be removed 17 March 2005: The Schindlers file an emergency motion at the US Supreme Court to block the removal of Mrs Schiavo's feeding tube. They say lower courts need time to consider whether their daughter's religious freedom and due process rights have been violated.
what was the point in that?
but duckhead,I think you will get your wish,
the point was, it was not necessary for jed bush to step in until 2003
first off, he was trying to remove unfavorable judges which borders on criminal, and second, trying to gain custody of her is just ridiclous, he knows the law, and knows that the courts have done their job but he continues to inject himself.
How do you know it was? Because her husband said so SEVEN YEARS AFTER THE FACT? And why were at it, Explain all the broken bones in her body at the time? Something stinks in all this. Do you honestly believe that starving her to death was her wish. I went with my sister to have her cat put down and they PUT a IV in his leg, and about 15 minutes later the final dose that put it to sleep. We treat our animals more humanly. If she's not in pain, why are they giving her morphine? A million questions with no answers.
it still wasnt necessary for him to step in, he knew what the outcome would be, I am sure his office had hundreds if not thousands of letters from others asking for help, but they dont have a camera crew. Second, what is my wish? that she be allowed to die? No, my wish is that she gets the end result she would have wanted but for you to insinuate that I wished her death just really pisses me off.
Who are you talking too duckhead, because i didn't say that.
.
I DONT KNOW, which is part of my point, but neither do you, however, the courts ruled that with testimony from her husband AND friends, this would have been her wish.
I was talking to Larry.
Where can I find the article citing her broken bones, I hadnt heard that?
No one knows who's telling the truth and who isn't, my point is, the way they are killing her. It's beyond belief, we treat criminals better than this when they are on death row. I've yet to see a death row inmate die from starvation.
Neurologosts say she cant feel the pain, but I am sure it would be pain free anyway, I got to imagine they would drug her to make sure.
It is rather amazing how many people die needless and painful deaths because no one cares about them - especially if you are poor and a minority (look at the Texas futile care law which allows the parents/spouse's wishes to be overruled). Many people who die these needless deaths could be saved with a minimum of help and money. But since their cases won't play well in pandering to your voters, they get ignored. This is hypocrisy at it's finest. It is also a blatant attempt by republicans to implement their will on people. That is scarey. What is next? Telling us who we can marry? When we can divorce? When we can have children? What kind of sex we can have? Is congress going to break the constitution every time ONE single person that allows them to pander needs it? This whole episode is disgusting. It is also an attempt by the religious right nutjobs to impose their will on everyone. Be very afraid.
I see that she had broken bones PRIOR however, I cant find anything on a regular news source that detail anything. Only blogs and indi web sites.
Go to google and type in: terri Schiavo broken bones and you'll find all kinds of articles
..
drool
I meant you are getting your wish, the feeding tube will probably not be reenserted. that is what it implies you are saying. that's not even what this ballot is about, you wanted to know if jed bush is doing this for that, I'm saying why I don't feel that is true. He's your govenor, maybe you know him best.
phhhhrrrrrrt
fffffhhhrrrrrt
he's not my governor, I no longer live there. 2nd, again you say I will get my wish that the tube will not be reinserted, these arent "my" wishes.
I had done that Runyon which is why I said I cant find a regular news source. Type in Bush and rapist and you will get stuff too, doesnt mean it is true.
moral of the story, write it down and give to your doctor. If you haven't done it already you better do it now, because you could be in her situation any moment.

Let me ask this: If the person involved had been a black transexual who had been beaten senseless while trying to earn money to support her/his child, would anyone give a rat's ass about this? I doubt it. Who would care about that person's life? She is different, isn't she? Her life must not mean as much at Ms Schiavo.
Damn it Terri, if I told you once I told you a thousand times--GET YOUR OWN DAMN ACCOUNT, REGISTRATION IS FREE!
sorry I misunderstood you duck head
let me tell you this, I would feel the same way fiddle
I don't care what his motivation is, he's doing the right thing.
whatever, i'm done with ballot. I can have a better argument with a bag of dead monkeys, that would at least say one thing good on terri's behalf. Like fiddlefaddle said (MORE LESS), we are just a bunch religious right nutjobs, if you are one who defends terri. So lets all root for her husband instead. Go Michael go, rah rah kill her sloooooooooowly rah rah rah.
Recent report on Terry's condition: Her eyes are sinking into her head, her skin is beginning to crack, and she looks not unlike a prisoner @ Auschwitz. Sounds like a dignified way to die to me.
that was not helpful runy
runyon, apparently you didnt read your private messages before you made your last comment huh?
There is nothing inherently wrong with defending Terri, if you are consistant. That is not the case. Also, to say you are pro-family and then try to use the power of government to overrule that then you are a hyprocrite.
duckhead, yikes....Sorry i should of read your private message first, before i made the comment about the dead monkeys. I am just so friggin angry over whats happening in this case. I haven't heard much from her friends on this whole case so i don't about them
See i'm so pissed off my typing is all crazy and everything.
What is amazing (maybe it shouldn't be) is how much the religious right will spread lies about this case. The courts have ruled REPEATEDLY on every single claim or accusation. The have found with witnesses that this was Terri's desire. That is why the Schindlers have lost every single battle.
I might add that you can read the very court decisions for yourself if you don't believe me. They are a public record.
That right there is what is cookin my goose here fiddlefaddle, your continuous religious right will spread lies, nutjobs BS. If i were to sit here and offend democrats like that i would be up to my eyeballs in being called everything but a white woman on here.
white woman!
hey white woman, lol, joking I found some info on the bone scans, they were never even mentioned in court until 2002, but it is believed the bones that were injured may be consistent to what happens during CPR and a fall. Not saying he wasnt abusive but that the borken bones are not definitive proof he had hurt her.
I didn't call you a religious nutjob, I said Bush was pandering to them (them being people like Randall Terry and other abortion foes who have made websites with pitures of any judge who ruled on this case saying: "these are her killers". Those people are nutjobs. That is why the judges in this case wear bulletproof vests and have police protection.
I think what could straighten this out would be "her friends" and if they believe her husband truly cared and would do this to respect her wishes.
fiddlefaddle, your exact words were: This whole episode is disgusting. It is also an attempt by the religious right nutjobs to impose their will on everyone........I didn't see bush's name mentioned i seen the religious right.
And.... the courts ruled on the bone scans too. Why can't people accept the fact that all these things have already been ruled on. It is not just me saying that. That is EXACTLY why all the courts have ruled against the Schindlers.
Question: How did the court determine this was Terry's desire if it was never in writing. Why did her murderer, I mean husband wait until 7yrs after Terry developed this condition to mention her wish do die? Oh, I know he had to wait until he won $ in the malpractice suit against her doctor.
Read the court ruling! It is all in there. That was obviously the most contentious issue and every court has validated the original decision.
Here's the pandering and hypocrisy: a six-month old boy named Sun Hudson. On Thursday, Hudson died after a Texas hospital removed his feeding tube, despite his mother's pleas. He had a fatal congenital disease, but would have been kept alive had his mother been able to pay for his medical costs, or had she found another institution willing to take him. In a related Texas case, Spiro Nikolouzos, who is unable to speak and must be fed through a tube because of a shunt in his brain – but who his wife says can recognize family members and show emotion – may soon be removed from life support because health care providers believe his case is futile. The Hudson and Nikolous cases fall under the Texas Futile Care Law, which was signed into law by then-governor George W. Bush.
I made a new ballot, check it out, it will cool us all off.
If you want Big Brother government interfering in decisions you make with your wife or husband then go right ahead and let them do that.
I hope someone beats the living shit plume out of terri's husband. Duckhead since your in flordia why don't you do it? :)
I agree with Duckhead's point about her friends. I'd be okay with this if her wishes were in will form and if the method of euthanasia was more like a lethal injection rather than the inhumane treatment that occured in Nazi Germany.
Some may find this interesting: Dr. William Hammesfahr was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology in 1999 and has been called "the first physician to treat patients successfully to restore deficits caused by stroke" by Judge Susan Kirkland of the Florida Department of Health. His patient success rate is an amazing 80%. Dr. Hammesfahr evaluated Terri and gave testimony on his conclusions during the 2002 trial. He stated that not only is PVS an incorrect assessment of Terri's condition, but also that she can be greatly improved with new therapies. Dr. Hammesfahr specializes in a number of successful therapies and has offered to treat Terri, citing that she is an excellent candidate for rehabilitation.
FiddleFaddleOnLSD, big brother has my blessing if one of my kids spouse and the courts try to kill my own children.
LCB, sorry but that stuff isnt true. That doctor has been outed as a fraud, he has never been nominated for a Nobel prize and he has been suspended for medical malpratice and overcharging patients for treatment they didnt receive, THAT was on Fox news!
FFLsd: I was already aware of then Governor Bush's action, and I find it disgusting.
anyhow yall, it was a good exhange, I am done with this ballot, takes too much out of me. We got off subject anyway. Great points Fiddle, Runyon, Larry, Crank LCB... me, LOL. Cya guys.
I'll look into it further Duckhead. If he is a fraud I retract that post.
Me too you bunch of dead monkeys you, :)
Look.... the facts are that EVERY single court has looked at the evidence provided by Mr Schiavo and the Shindlers. EVERY single court has found the exact same thing. No evidence used to support Mr Schiavo has been thrown out. Every single accusation or rumor has been investigated ad infinitum. EVERY court - no matter if republican or democrat, christian or not, and... EVERY single one has said the EXACT same thing. How many do overs do you need before you accept that the courts using the law have found the exact same thing??? How many times do you break the US or Florida constitution to get ANOTHER do over? Read the court opinion. The courts have ruled every time that this was her desire and that Mr Schiavo is her guardian and can make that decision. The decisions have all been made according to the rule of law and the evidence presented. This is how we do things in this country. You can't just change it when you don't like the result - especially when you haven't even read what the courts have said about evidence and the accusations. Why can't people just accept the facts? READ the court rulings.
ok, I read the court rulings, yes you are right, every court has agreed on the husbands side. That still does not mean I have to agree, and I still think OJ is guilty too despite the court ruling
Just read the rulings. That is all I ask.
I don't think so. In three years, people will have essentially forgotten about the Schiavo case.
So people who can afford to pay their medical bill should be put to death? This court case has been ongoing for 15 years. 3 years ago, the feeding tube was removed and Jeb Bush was behind the family and helped them then with Terry's law. He has been consistently on the side of life here, why is it so hard to believe he just doesn't want to see someone starved to death based on heresay?
By the way, has anyone asked why did Michael Shiavo agree to have the feeding tube installed at all, if she didn't wish to be sustained on life support? Did he forget until 7 years later? It does seem a bit fishy. By the way the affording medical bill comment above was directed toward an early comment Cranky made.
This thread needs cliff notes, too much reading to try and catch up. FiddleFaddle, I don't believe someone who is for protecting life is a "nut job". But hey, that's just me. Michael Schiavo just want her to die so he can collect the malpractice money. He cheated on his wife with three different mistresses (while she was still deemed to have chance to make a full recovery) Michael Schiavo, OJ, and Robert Blake should all form a bowling team called, 'We killed our wives and got away with it, now we are going to go bowling, Huttah!' That's how you drink milk baby!
They gave Michael Schiavo's testimony nearly zero weight when weighing whethher she would have wanted to die or not.
According to recent "polls" most Americans do not support the Government interference with Terry. So why would Jeb care unless he was actually a good person?
Jeb and his compassionate conservatives thought the polls would go the other way. Now that they see the opposite, they are running for cover. The sound of the crickets is becoming deafening.
