COMMENTS:
Maybe a slight connection, but the old causes of war will still remain i.e lack of resources, differences in culture etc

If we can't even have peace within our own families, how can there ever be world wide peace unless we're all doped up??
by Tadema on Mon Apr 04, 05 10:10am [+]

You don 't think that democracy gives the masses more power than other systems? and that the masses are not very interested in waging war?
by EUROTOPIA on Mon Apr 04, 05 10:22am [+]

I believe that most of the masses are not intersted in war but even this site shows that there is always someone that wants to start trouble for no other reason than getting a twisted thrill out of it.
by Tadema on Mon Apr 04, 05 10:23am [+]

The masses wont want war as long as they have food to eat and room to sleep. Limited resources mean that both of these comforts wont last forever.

It seems only Western nations and Japan known how to run a country correctly.
by Republican_RightWing on Mon Apr 04, 05 10:31am [+]

Republican_RightWing- Why? What do Japan and the Western nations have that the others do not have? Is it democracy? Or is it something else? NOTE: This is a very important question, because in this era, nation-building is very very important. South Korea's successes should place it line with Japan and the West? -------------------------- kingAlfredTheGreat - you have raised excellent points.
by EUROTOPIA on Mon Apr 04, 05 10:50am [+]

Great Militaries build great nations. Caucasians didn't isolate themselves, they went in search of scientific discovery and new lands. We didn't stick to old customs, we evolved. Japan has copied Western nations and has seen that our way works.
by Republican_RightWing on Mon Apr 04, 05 10:53am [+]

Republican_RightWing- "Great Militaries build great nations." - the USSR had a great military, where is that nation-state now?________________________
"We didn't stick to old customs, we evolved." - Those are very interesting words coming froma conservaitive. :) But we're being side-tracked. What do you think RR? If all the nations of the world had Western style democracy would there be world peace?
by EUROTOPIA on Mon Apr 04, 05 11:19am [+]

I totally, totally agree with what Tadema said.
by mojo on Mon Apr 04, 05 1:44pm [+]

There would still be wars, but not nearly as many and they wouldn't be nearly as large. Conflict is inevitable, but if you give the people who suffer in wars (everyone not in the government) the authority to determine whether their nation goes to war or not they're going to vote against it more often then not. That's just basic self interest.
by herzog on Mon Apr 04, 05 3:43pm [+]

....the problem being?
by keithsheen on Mon Apr 04, 05 4:49pm [+]

Do you consider UUSR to be a Western nation or Asian? They still have a good military. Republicans do favor change but over a slow period of time. Western democracy only works for Westerners. The whole world can have their own type of democracy, but will never be the same as ours. War will always be around even until the Apocalypse.
by Republican_RightWing on Mon Apr 04, 05 5:50pm [+]

Typo, USSR.
by Republican_RightWing on Mon Apr 04, 05 5:50pm [+]

No problem with that scenario keith, merely a statment of fact.
by herzog on Mon Apr 04, 05 7:25pm [+]

No. Too many humans have a perverse need for war.
by THX1138 on Mon Apr 04, 05 10:21pm [+]

THX1138- humans do not have a NEED for war. Many however unnecesarily have a WANT for war. There is a difference.
by EUROTOPIA on Mon Apr 18, 05 12:44am [+]

So many people have said there is no connection between democracy and peace? What does this suggest about Bush's proposal to democratise the middle-east in order to make peace in that region?
by EUROTOPIA on Mon Apr 18, 05 12:46am [+]

No peace was ever obtained without war.
by Republican_RightWing on Mon Apr 18, 05 7:59am [+]

Republican_RightWing- you mean 'peace' as in balance of power in which war could explode at any moment, in that tensions and hatred are merely suppressed waiting to explode into another war at any time. Only balance of power peace is a result of war. And balance of power ALWAYS shifts producing another war eventually. So, in other words war only creates temporary peace. If you want to continue this debate go back to my Buddhism and International politics ballot. Thanks : D

War is inevitable. It's human nature. There is no way you can simply stop it.
by Republican_RightWing on Mon Apr 18, 05 7:25pm [+]

Republican_RightWing. Thank you. You have given me an idea for a new ballot...
by EUROTOPIA on Thu Apr 21, 05 6:05am [+]

Republican_RightWing- war is not a true part of human nature.
by EUROTOPIA on Fri Apr 22, 05 10:27am [+]

Yes it is. wether it's large scale or villiage aganist villiage.
by Republican_RightWing on Fri Apr 22, 05 12:02pm [+]
