I wouldn't call it crazy people get frustrated when the believe something strongly & can't understand why others don't share those feelings. Also admitting your wrong is a hard thing to do (more to yourself than others I think) & some people would rather hate or spread rumors than take another look at something with an open mind. It's easier to just dislike the other guy.

I just cant understand why people get upset over things that are beyond their control and that political ideologies are different from political parties, the ideologies were lost long ago, I think the Who put it best "meet the new boss, same as the old boss".

Basically American is divided into fractal groups. You can be simplistic and divide America into two groups, but that is just an excercise in laziness. The truth is that America
is still very much pressured by religious groups. America was founded by pilgrims, religious dissidents, and a select few rational secularists. Although the rationalists held many of the top political positions early on in this country's history, the majority of the people lived on relative ignorance and religious superstitions to form the most basic form of social stabilization control. Currently the US is controled by a group called neocons. Neocon is really just a code word for christian/zionist/jewish/ imperialist/hawkism. These manifiestations should not prove surprising in that these forced were present at the formation of the United States. Humans are more swayed by emotion, than reason. Look at the stock market, it swings like a pendulum to extremes beyond any realist value of the equity value of the stock. This same phenomenon is present in the political/world arena. Right now, the United states is at one extreme state of neoconism. It remains to be seen when or if the pendulum will swing back. That is if the current extreme group does not destroy the world before it has a chance to.

Many Americans definately seem to get pulled into party politics a lot easier. Its election time here in the U.K with 3 weeks to go. Compare that to October time in the U.S in the run-up to their elections it seems like a different world. It's a business over in the U.S, with millions bieng spent, huge pre-election tours and huge TV campaigns - sucking the people in. The negative campaigning employed divides the people even more.

People over here are way more cynical of party politics, politicians and the tactics they employ - on all sides. They have been proven to be second only to lawyers when it comes to lying.

I don't want the government running my life. Here's a quote from Thomas Jefferson- "All authority belongs to the people." That is how it should be. If the democrats ran this country, it would be a living hell for me.

Yeah catching saddam could really destroy the world , that whole democracy thing in the middle east is soooo much more dangerous then saddam ever was!
by everygirl on Fri Apr 08, 05 11:59am [+]

Also ABC you get my point call names ... etc don't look at the results of the "party" you support always point fingers it makes life so much easier (of course only for the pointer, everyone can just suffer in silence like the Iraqis did for so long) letting go of hate & really examinging the situation seems to be the hardest thing for Americans to do. Don't know how it got to be that way?

Europeans have a strange obsession with NeoCons, which most American Republicans arn't.
by Republican_RightWing on Fri Apr 08, 05 12:02pm [+]

On a side not, I'm not saying that democrats are bette than republicans. As they can represent the other extreme in forms of communism, white male bashing, and total dependence and subjugation to the burgoise. Interestingly the neocon can manifest into democratic polity minus its adherent social /economic ideology.

Neo Con is an over used word, which specifically refers to facists.

The US is one deeply divided nation, at present. The focus continues to be on Winning, not on healing rifts.
by Cathexis on Fri Apr 08, 05 1:02pm [+]

Yep, it's way divided. I think part of it stems from the fact that both sides have jackasses in office (have you seen the latest pork spending reports) The tax payers get absolutly raped from all angles. From the left there is money that is wasted on perfectly able con men that scam social benfits and there doesnt seem to be much done to curb it and from the right there are corporations that have legislation in their favor to help them rape the public even more. Politicians seem to rarely be honest, and more often they are trying to pull the wool over the publics eyes. I think right now, even the congressman that are more honest are peer pressesured into voting along party lines which really sucks. My biggest prob if I can mention personal reason with the right is not the bulk of the GOP, just the current leadership of the GOP.
by Duckhead on Fri Apr 08, 05 2:05pm [+]

I think we're deeply divided. No one will give an inch and everything is black or white now and now areas of gray (Someone wise told me that). We're all guilty of it and I feel bad that sometimes I've lashed out at people on this site. Sorry for doing that sometimes :)

RR--your comment serves to illustrate the "no gray areas" anymore. So if a Democrat had one, how would you feel if someone said that to you? When you're talking about Bush winning, ultimately, we ALL lost!
by patch22us on Fri Apr 08, 05 3:57pm [+]

The right seem to pander to the deep seated fears among humans. They will use anything they can to make them feel unsafe or under threat from an imagined enemy.

A few posters have said that Iraq is crying out for democracy and freedom, even if that were the case, we cannot decide who is fit or not fit to be 'civilised' at the barrel of a gun.

Democracy simply means that if 51% of the vote decide that the other 49% should be executed, thats ok, because it is democracy.

Those who support the right see things in an over simplified way, as if the right wing agenda has the answers to all the questions, when in fact they are usually at the root of the problems.

Strong words from a smart man.

What I find humorous about our intention of making Iraq democratic (at least the intention that we fell back on when our stated goal of invading the country to remove Weapons of Mass Destruction failed) is that we our using ourselves as the model for democracy; because things are working so well over here.

Now I'm no historian, but it seems as if we are in the middle of what I like to call a "cold civil war". We've grown too soft and lazy to take up arms against each other, so we pursue every non-violent alternative at our disposal--which in a way is worse, because the only thing we accomplish through a war of words is to get more angry and entrenched in our respective "sides".

I live in California. As far as I'm concerned, seceding from the union is an option at this point in time. The rest of you can figure it out.
