They help when they can. Like getting all of those Americans out of Iran during the hostage crisis.
I tend to think of canada as americas goofy cousin, you know the one I'm talking about. Nice guy, but he's always seemed a little 'off'. You're fond of that weird little kid, and if anyone started picking on him you'd step in and help him out, but you really don't want him coming to your aid, as he'd be in your way most of the time and wouldn't really bring much to the table. You don't blame him for this, it's just the way he is, but still. . . ; )
Canadians have pretty vaginas.
I think its better to have our northern neighbors (Canadians) living here then it is having our southern neighbors (Mexicans) living here..
Jappy, penguins live in the southern hemisphere. Anyway which country are you defending us from?
Hmm..how do you feel that the world likes us better?

The freedom we provide them? Someone is pretty full of themselves. Here's an idea: Stop helping everyone.
question: n. korea has the "nodong" missile; if canada were to make it's own medium range missile what would it call it: the "nobeaver"?
herzog- your metaphor of Canada as a retarted cousin who needs your taking care of it is demeaning to Canada... and it reminds me of Japan's attitude in World War 2. World War 2 Japan claimed to be the caring, strong, and enlightened and it labeled the rest of Asia as its retarded cousins who needed Japanese nurturing (imperialism) and that Japan entered WW2 to 'protect' its retarded cousins from Western imperialism- and in the process legitimised its own imperialism over Asia. herzog's analogy seems similar to that of WW2 Japan.
By describing the American-Canadian relationship as that of protecting a retarded cousin implies that Canada is too stupid to make decisions for itself and needs superior America to do so for them. This analogy leads to a de facto legitimisation of the idea of American ownership of Canada. I disapprove of this way of thinking.
And the personification of Canada as a 'goofy cousin' implies that all Canadians are stupid, that they don't know what their talking about and that American people are intrinsically superior. That's because 'Canada' is a conglomeration of people, to call 'Canada' goofy is to label that conglomeration of people as such. This kind of superiority complex has always brought disaster.
EURO Woa, I don't think he was completely serious with that comment. I like Canada.
I'd rather live next to Canada than Texas.
^No way. Winter for 8 months is never good.
Why should we assume that herzog's comments were meant humorously, thc? He hasn't ever displayed much of a sense of humour on this site, and he frequently disparages other nations, ethnicities and cultures.
Crank: speaking on behalf of all Texans I think we'd all rather you lived as far away from us as possible. Dingle: maybe because I put a little "; )" sign after my comments? Do you have any internet experience whatsoever?
I don't know why you guys give herzog such a hard time. Canadians are constantly taking pot shots at the U.S. Keep it up Herzog. We can dish it out AND take it too.
It doesn't surprise me that you pick on people & call it funny, herzog. ClosetIguana: did you *ever* leave the playground?
DingleDUNG Stop picking on me or I'll tell.
Ha ha !! :-)
"^No way. Winter for 8 months is never good." So you'd settle with Mexico. I hope all you American nationalists out there know that the US isn't protecting Canada because America wants to protect the Canadien people. It has a lot more to do with protecting the US than Canada (same with Mexico). If any country wanted to occupy the US all they have to do is take over a strip of Mexico or Canada for a base. It really has nothing to do with protecting Canada but protecting America. Jappy, America doesn't give freedom to anyone, that's just an lie your retarded president is beating into your head. Like WMDs in Iraq.
I just think that using personification of nations to describe international politics is silly. I read one that said that the US-French relationship is like that of 'frustrated lovers'. Nonsense. To treat the relations between two nations as being just like that of between two people doesn't make sense. Nations are not living entities that interact with each other. It is the individuals within each that interact.
LD, do you honestly believe that the US would stand by idly while a foreign power takes over a section of Mexico or Canada? You are sadly mistaken about that. You want to believe, incorrectly, that the United States is working to become a modern day imperialistic nation. TOo bad your hatred for this administration has tainted your ability to see the forest for the trees.
Working to become a modern imperialistic nation? Many successive U.S. administrations have been acting exactly that way since the turn of the century, jappy. From 1945 to the end of the century, several U.S. administrations attempted to overthrow more than 40 foreign governments, and to crush more than 30 populist-nationalist (what the U.S. call communist) movements struggling against intolerable regimes. In the process, this caused the end of life for several million people, and condemned many millions more to a life of agony and despair. Just do some reading on how the U.S. fought communism by supporting tyrannical regimes in the third world, give John Negroponte a call and see what he has to say. Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, East Timor, Chile, Venezuela, (Pinochet), Indonesia, Lebanon and the list goes on.
