Is there ever a reason to abuse a child? I guess I would say parenting classes before the abuse, but once it happened, I have to say remove the child from the situation .
Parenting classes; birth control so that people can plan when they have a child; one parent staying home for the first 5 years of the child's life; boundaries set at home from an early age.

Plus, different generations involved in rearing a child (grandparents can be important to a little one's development and can reduce stress on parents).

I agree in principal with what mojo says, however, grandparents, as wonderful as they may be can be a pain in the a$$ at times, if you try to disipline your child by lets say, refusing to reward bad behaviour with sweets, the grandparents will sneak behind your back and give them sweets when your not looking, its kinda hard to set boundries under those conditions lol.
What mojo said.
