No, I just go with whatever my conscience steers me toward. And I know the incident you speak of. At face value, seems as though we've found a select group with EQs lower than that of an eleven-year-old.

I don't think the ballot is relevant. I think the users just went with their usualy biases. This is what I do when I see a ballot. I look to see the user and if it is an id that I don't recogize I will go to their user page. If they are a new user, I will tend to give karma if the ballot is reasonably good (as a way of encouraging someone). It also avoids problems like what happened in this situation. I just wish more people would take a little time.
