I don't see how he can make that assumption from the one exposure to the culture. If I were to do that, I'd have to say that the U.S. is racist, when I know otherwise.
Well, all Fishburne was saying is that he felt a vibe

Truth, you think it just might be a case of extreme culture shock rather than racism?

There are millions of Australian aboriginals who have "experienced Australia for what it IS"-a racist country, one that has even had racist immigration policies. As for Fishburne, there really isn't enough information. Is someone a racist because he feels threatened?
Lots of folks damaged by racism in America and the world. However, we cannot change the past, we can only try not to repeat mistakes. Who knows if Larry Fisburne experienced actual racism in Australia. My question is what good is achieved by tarring a country? Maybe elevating racial consciousness? It will almost certainly damage his box office bottom line in Australia. Interesting Ballot. Thanks.
Oh, didn't answer the question. Does this behavior make Fishburne a "racist?" Hard to say. Feeling "uncomfortable around white people," taken alone, does not make him a racist. There are plenty of white people I'm uncomfortable around, and I'm white. And if he is a racist, who really cares? Racism bores me more than it offends me.
Don't know if he's a racist, but if he is I won't be losing any sleep over it.
I thought he was Samuel L. Jackson. I always get those two mixed up.
Everybody feels isolated when they first arrive at a new location. Just imagine walking into a new place and everyone is different from you--anybody would ge *a vibe.* Didn't he say that he now loves Sydney. Why do people care about what actors have to say. There are exceptions, but most actors are tempermental idiots who no nothing about current events.
Some claim AUstralia to be the last bastion of Racism Aboriginal peoples die 15-20 years younger than the Australian population, with 23 times the average death rate from infections of the kidney, 12-17 times the average for diabetes (one of the highest rates in the world), and 3-5 times the death rate from chronic respiratory disease. They are 10 times more likely to suffer blindness than the general population, largely because of corneal scarring from trachoma or unoperated cataract and, increasingly, from diabetes. They are twice as likely to be admitted to hospital, usually so ill that they need to stay longer - mainly for dialysis, pregnancy and childbirth complications, respiratory and digestive diseases and injury. They suffer higher than average rates for mental disorders, alcohol and other drug related conditions, circulatory diseases, nervous system disorders, skin diseases and infectious and parasitic diseases. Any Aussies out there? Any truth to this or is it BS?
No. Vibe or not. He is a person stating how he felt. That alone can't make him a racist. This word, "racist", is thrown around to much on this site.
Yes and No Metaculture is diametrically opposed to Multi or mono culture Its the usual fuckers who cant accept they've lost the war.
Yes and No meaning about it being racist. Fishburne is correct and is not being racist But fear plays a lot becuase the Maori are one of the best resources we have here for the war
You guys are missing the point. Fishburne didn't say Austarlia was racist. He said he 'felt racism' there. Its all a bit inflammatory to jump to unwarranted conclusions based on this vague comment isn't it? There are plenty of racists on b&w, I have felt racsim here. But it is not a racist website. See the difference?
