ARE CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALISTS OBSESSED WITH SEX?

[+] ballot by RobinGaylord

In general the average person only worries about their own sex life and the sex life of anyone they wish to make a part of their sex life (and of course the sexual development of their kids), but fundamentalist Christians worry about everyone’s sex life their neighbors, politicians, teachers, gay people they never talk to, policemen, the president, etc. A lot of people in European countries point this out but I don’t think that Americans themselves have ever really hashed this over amongst themselves. Are Christian fundamentalists obsessed with sex?

Good question, Robin. Hmmmm. Well, I think that most of the Fundamental Christian "biggies" (like Falwell, Copeland, et al) want to define the "good" for us, and then enforce compliance.

One thing about this Christianity business that has always puzzled me: Remember what was forbidden the the "Garden of Eden?" Of course you do: "To eat of the tree of knowledge of good an evil." Okay, now we know that the Christian God forbids eating of this tree of opposites. Here's the interesting part: What business is it that Christian churches are all involved in? Right! The business of good and evil which was expressly forbidden by God! Odd.

Perhaps the serpent is exceedingly subtle indeed.

Loved your ballot.

What can you expect from someone who's first date was with a farm animal?

For many religious conservatives sex appears to be more of a sin than violence.

Griffon, I'm not positive but I think when Adam and Eve broke the rule, then it changed humanity. What would have been a Utopia changed because they learned of evil, thus changing the roll of humans. I'm no expert, that is just my opinion on the subject. I'm probably way off base ;-D

Certainly no expert either, Ceejjj. Perhaps you could argue from the Christian perspective that once Eve and Adam ate the fruit, that the serpent turned out to have been telling the truth in at least one respect: that they would be able to know good and evil (well, let me hedge a bit: apparently know good and evil). And not only know it, but suffer it. And God was apparently telling the truth when he warned Eve & Adam that they would surely die.

My grandfather was a Pentacostal Minister, and he preached that the sin in the garden was disobedience, and this resulted in the end of eternal happiness in the presence of God, and ensured that they would suffer life and death, right and wrong, and all the other pains of being time-bound opposites. So, from this perspective, perhaps the Christian Church is just trying to point out what God says and avoid even more disobedience. Don't know, but this argument from the Christian point of view might be an answer to my argument.

Bible scholars (I can't resist this: an oxymoron to be sure :)>) have noted that the tree of knowledge of good and evil was located in the center of the garden. You couldn't go anywhere without going past it. Hmmm. Wonder if that was an accident? Hmmm. Well lots of questions and few satisfactory answers.

Finally, the answer to any attack on any faith on the planet is what I choose for my personal motto: "A man/woman with an experience is never at the mercy of a man/woman with an argument. Many, many people on this planet claim to have experienced the Christian God as real, and for that there is no argument.

Enjoyed your comments.

have to agree with Beelzebubba - if there was something going on in their own lives, they wouldn't feel so compelled to obsess about what everyone else is doing. Besides i think they're jealous that they're missing out on all the fun.

as for the serpent thing - snakes are very old symbols associated with sex and ancient goddess religions. It appears the notion of original sin had a lot to do with sex after all. Women's sexuality had to be controlled - else how would one know who the daddy was, and for a patriarchal society like the ancient Hebrews - that was extremely important.
