I agree to a point Doc. It is sad that anyone is diagnosed with cancer (or any other terminal illness for that matter) famous or not. I suppose in a way it helps people undertsnad and become more aware of them when they are publicised. Because to be honest, your not going to get a headline in the papers everytime someone contracts a deadly illness. But i understand what you are saying completely. Why should people only start becoming aware of cancer etc, when someone in the public eye suffers. There are millions around the world who have fought/still fighting their illness today.
Because the headline 'Mrs Ethel Stokes of #36 Stoke Newington High Street London contracts cancer' doesn't sell newspapers. Sad but true :o(
Like you, IC and Kit_Kat, I find it a bit ironic that a serious disease like cancer seems to receive so much national and international exposure ONLY when there's a celebrity afflicted with it, but I do wish Kylie Minogue all the best.
...As I wish every other person fighting this disease.
What i should have said was that i was goin round my office for weeks tellin people im doin this charity thing for cancer awarness. Everyone sponsered me but only cuz they grudgingly felt they had to cuz its me. Now they hear poor little Kylie has cancer and they think the worlds gonna end or something!?
Yeah.... that's wack. Suddenly everyone's falling over themselves with concern. But it makes me wonder... if more so-called celebrities actually got off their duffs and pointed out society's ills, would there be more done to combat deadly diseases, wars and famines? Probably so. They have a lot of power, sometimes way too much.
You bastard! I love Kylie! In fact, I'm sending her flowers, candy, and a musical get well card right now!
You're a doc, you should know already lol.
A doctor of Fonzarellyism, Cletus. Not cancer im afraid.
That is cool that you did something for cahrity Fonz, makes you feel good don't it? Cancer sucks, I have had 3 family members die of stomach, lung and breast cancer... it sucks to have to see them go through that kind of pain.. shit there is no glamour in it what-so-ever... People rely too much on famous faces to feel some sort of absurd connection with them..?!
What the Colonel said. How many of us even thought about prostate cancer until Miss Couric started shoving it down our throats? Not making light of it, mind you. Stars atached to anything, even potentially fatal diseases, draw our notice.
