In addition to the culture angle, art also speaks to past history, stating, even subtly, the factors that drove the artist to create what he did.

Hey I'm an artist...of tattoos and game characters, and such. Ah, some would say aesthetics are a waste of time and energy. But that's where some only seek practicality.
if art is not important, than why do we keep on watching cartoons.

Depends what's meant by 'art'. It can be thought provoking, but more often than not it's pretentious bullshit... in my humble opinion. Some 'artists' would benefit greatly from a good hard slap.
