COMMENTS:
No these double standards never "amaze" me. I don't claim that the right ain't hypocritical. I think we all are. What bothers me most is that Tripp was small fries. Felt was involved in intimidation of the lefty foreign nationals. He bothered little kids and women, relatives of lefty jerks, but now the left cannonize him. In 1986 Reagan pardoned Felt. At the time the absolutely unbiased media condemned both Reagan and Felt. Now only Reagan is a liar and Felt is a hero. Now back to the regularly scheduled lunacy of the left.
They both should be ridiculed.
Two sides, same coin. Both rats whose ultimate effect was perhaps positive, but not by intent. Both betrayed colleagues and friends. And, as the Eagles noted, "When it comes to dealing friends, it never ends." Just can't seem to warm up to rats.
The basic equation of life is that we are loyal to family, friends, and colleagues. When someone betrays any of these groups for personal gain, they cannot ever be trusted again -- In my job I am often given bits of information by office "snitches." I listen, find it sometimes helpful, but I never trust or respect the informer again. If he/she will inform on their friends and colleagues, I know they will rat on my if they think it profitable. We use informers, but no one respects them. And maybe it shouldn't be this way, but there it is.
So you would never blow a whistle grifon? Both Tripp and Felt did the right thing. Just don't cannonize Felt becuase he brought down Nixon and demonize Tripp becuase she brought down Clintoon.
I feel the label 'snitch' is a little harsh. Without whistleblowers, corporations and governments would act with (more) impunity. Deep Throat, was reporting a criminal act, while Linda Tripp was reporting, lets face it, an extra marital affair. Hardly the same thing... And I doubt Ms Tripp did it for any other reason than the publicity and the money attached, as to Mr Felt, he shunned publicity until now, and only admitted to it after a lot of persuasion by his family.
Give it a rest, hamster, don't try to gloss over Clinton for doing EXACTLY the same thing Nixon did: covering up something wrong and lying about it continuously until the coverup was completely impossible to continue. As far as 'criminal act' is concerned, once again, that wasn't what brought Nixon down, if you study the situation, it was, once again, the cover up.
I think the word 'hero' is over-used in this culture. The man didn't risk his life for others. He should neither be vilified nor set on a pedestal. If he'd revealed his identity 20 years ago, this news would have been a lot more interesting, IMO.

Linda Tripp was nothing more than a rejected, jealous ugly woman, who was taking vengeance on the world, using Monica Lewinsky as her surrogate. Linda Tripp was a pig.
Well, I think Cranky just made your point for you jappy!
Yes, he did. cranky would call Felt a hero and bash Tripp, perfect example of partisan foolishness.
Steelhamster while it may be true what you say of Tripp's motives, the fact remains that Tripp exposed perjury by a lawyer, and that lawyer happened to be the president. That's all. Nothing really heroic, and I think that a successful argument can be made about whether or not that should have even been an issue.
mojo, great points as demonstrated by Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman.
Look doesn't it matter that Felt is a convicted felon? I mean he ain't exactly gonna be the poster child for any hero worship, yet it is funny that in 1986 the Dems pointed to him about the excesses of the Reagan admin and now they love him.
Did Clinton lie about bombing an aspirin factory in Africa? The only aspirin factory? Did Clinton lie when he bypassed Congress to bail out the Mexican peso? Did Clinton lie when he bombed empty tents in Afganistan? At a cost of billions of dollars? Did Clinton lie when he invaded former Yugoslavian republics? NOPE Clinton never lied about nothing but a little nudge-nudge wink-wink
