Every now and then , we see where a women gives birth on a subway in New York, or on a whaleboat in Canada

They are usually hailed as heroes, appearing on all the talk shows and headlines of the worlds newspapers.

I'm not trying to belitte those women,I'm sure to them it was traumatic

But I just think people make a big deal about some things, while ignoring plights in other parts of the world that don't fit the cute little Katie Couric interview we watch while feeding our faces each morning.

For example:

In The Sudan women are giving birth while walking hundreds of miles through the jungles.

In Iraq and Afghanistan, women gave birth while bombs were falling all around them, and in other places around the world, women give birth hop scotching around land mines

Why do they make such a big deal about the women of the west giving birth in places that I'm sure many in Africa or other parts of the world would consider a whale boat or a subway a modern medical center.

this site is perfect example of how no one cares about people in 3rd world countries, if this ballot was made about lesbian love making, I'm sure it would get everyones attention.

The stories you speak of, the ones that Miss Couric and her sort feed us, make the masses go "AWWWW!" and forget the greater realities. To show that woman in the Sudan having a baby while stomping through the brush would be a downer, in the eyes of the many. And we simply CAN'T have down press.

I remember the story of the Chinese woman in wartime China. While the war was going around her, she gave birth herself, and cut the umbilocal cord by herself.
