I think video games are just for fun.
I love many of them; but find too many are simplistic, rely on graphics over game dynamics, and rehash the same themes.
Some of the concepts behind them, particularly for the first-person shooters, are ludicrous, appealing only to the need for senseless violence and mayhem. Believe it or not, the most fun I've had with a video game in the last five years was playing something called "Freaky Flyers". The graphics were comical, the controls were like sludge, but I had a ball.
