Here's my rationale: Everyone's happy in London, all optimistic due to the Olympics coming. A perfect time for terrorists to strike and put the fear of God (or probably Allah) in people, try and control people, "show who's boss" perhaps. Think it's correlated?

no, it was timed with the G8 summit 13
No. 8
Yes. 7
The terrorists are jelous of the Beatles 4

no too quick.
by xxxxxxxx on Thu Jul 07, 05 6:36am [+]

We must have typed this simultaneously, Steely.
by xxxxxxxx on Thu Jul 07, 05 7:05am [+]

Don't worry guys, there is no such thing as terrorism or al qaeda, bush just invented all that so he could invade iraq and steal their oil. I'm sure these 'explosions' are nothing more than a hyperactive imagination, move along now.
by herzog on Thu Jul 07, 05 8:15am [+]

Dont worry Herzog? Take a look at the news and see for yourself! How unsensitive can you be when people have innocently lost their lives this morning? Dont comment on what u know nothing about.
by Kit_Kat on Thu Jul 07, 05 8:23am [+]

^ My thoughts exactly.
by Cathexis on Thu Jul 07, 05 8:28am [+]

KK: two things. 1, it's called sarcasm. 2, when america lost 3000 people in one day, rather than 2, we had people preaching this line to use immediately. There were no attacks, it was all faked. How insensitive. And yet nobody really criticized those people.
by herzog on Thu Jul 07, 05 8:36am [+]

So maybe now people on the left will admit that terrorism is real? Nah, they'll blame this on blair, or bush, or themselves, but never on the actual terrorists. And no, I'm not going to be 'sensitive' about it, in a global war against islamic extremism sensitivity should rate pretty low on your list of priorities.
by herzog on Thu Jul 07, 05 8:37am [+]

Well i blame suicide bombers to be honest Herzog. Fair enough if you were being sarcastic, but sarcasm is meant to be funny.

As you saying YOU would criticize those people who made assumptions about 9/11? If so, then you are a pot calling a kettle black.

If not, then i respect your more recent comments herzog, just the first came accross as insensitive.
by Kit_Kat on Thu Jul 07, 05 8:52am [+]

Aww, that's cute, KK just gave me negative karma. I bet that if I'd said this was all bushes fault, seriously, I would have gotten a +5 from that little guy. Ah hypocrisy in the morning.
by herzog on Thu Jul 07, 05 8:52am [+]

Alright, it was a misunderstanding. I retract my last comment.
by herzog on Thu Jul 07, 05 8:55am [+]

Herzog is the biggest dumbf*ck on this site.

I think they would have hit whatever country got the bid.
by FiddleFaddleOnLSD on Thu Jul 07, 05 9:25am [+]

An attack like this would take more time to plan. It was most likely that they waited until the G8 summit in Scotland, knowing that the press would be focused on that part of the world, and that the world leaders, particularly Bush, would be on UK soil.
by smallreds on Thu Jul 07, 05 9:36am [+]

i just saw a man on the news say he saw bodies on the tracks, the death toll will surely be more than 2.
by smallreds on Thu Jul 07, 05 10:00am [+]

This is horrible. My prayers go out to the victims and I wish they could hang whoever's responsible.
I'm with small on this one. Al-Queda had it planned to coincide with the G8 summit, but they definitely knew about the olympic bid, so either way they had a ready-made media presence. Fucking creeps.
by um__yeah on Thu Jul 07, 05 10:31am [+]

Well, herz makes great points, as usual. Do to sensitivity issues (with respect the the brits, nto the extremists, to be clear), I will refrain from injecting any further opinions on this ballot. I hope all you Brits are ok.
by CletuSlackedJawYokel on Thu Jul 07, 05 10:56am [+]

That's cute^ Using a disaster like this for an excuse to pigeon-hole those terrible peace-lovin' commie lefty Bush-haters. Yeah, whatever you can imagine is the truth honey.

But let's not be extremist pigs here, what's just happened in London is A Nightmare, this should scare the crap out of all of us.
by Jyl on Thu Jul 07, 05 10:59am [+]

(my arro wasn't for clet by the way, but for the silly political fight^)
by Jyl on Thu Jul 07, 05 11:01am [+]

That was my gut feeling. but this couldn't have been planned in 20 hours. I bet the terrorists were pleased about 2012
by Andrew_Anorak on Thu Jul 07, 05 12:29pm [+]

I think it would be prudent to wait until all the facts are in before we start making assumptions. I have a very strong opinion about this (motive and culprits), but I'm going to clam up until we have some more data to work with.

Just remember that a terrorist attack is most successful when it results in truly instilling fear in the populace.
by Applerod on Thu Jul 07, 05 12:30pm [+]

herzog when did liberals deny that there are terrorists? you or bill o'really saying that does not make it so.

there are fringe looneys who say lots of extreme things but they do not speak for any one cause or political type.

i'm a liberal and have never said or thought that. liberals i have heard are saying that the actions of gwb2 are making MORE terrorists.
by weebles48 on Thu Jul 07, 05 12:33pm [+]

(More to the point of the ballot, though, I think if you did a poll of things that are most important to londoners, the olympic games of 2012 would not be at the top of the list. I think (key word) that the games may have been more of a bonus than a reason.)
by Applerod on Thu Jul 07, 05 12:34pm [+]

no u idiot, it's blatently obvious they attaked because of the g8 summit in britain at the moment, it's a stupid and insensitive thing to say, wot if straight after 9/11 we had suggested it was because of the superbowl.
And applerod, they have failed to instill fear into the population they will never acheive that in briatian, britains have been through much worse and we are not afraid of cowards
by ads21 on Thu Jul 07, 05 2:45pm [+]

^ I know that. I mentioned very specifically on another ballot that they have failed in this regard.
by Applerod on Thu Jul 07, 05 3:25pm [+]

-And honestly, I was thinking more of America when I wrote that.
by Applerod on Thu Jul 07, 05 3:26pm [+]

Sheesh herzog! I thought you were a better person than this. To say that we on the left didn't believe that terrorism exists is a gross generalization and frankly wrong. Have a little tact to hold your anti-liberal venom for a few days until the news is a tad stale. We didn't attack Bush the moment after 9/11 happened. Just because you like to attack liberals doesn't mean that you should do it at any time -- if you noticed, herzog, I'm perhaps the biggest conservative-basher on this site, and I made this ballot without blaming conservatives at all.

As for the G8 Summit, I didn't think about that at the moment I made this ballot. Good points, y'all.
by xxxxxxxx on Thu Jul 07, 05 4:48pm [+]

wasn't it between london and paris? it must have been a french revenge...
by LCD on Thu Jul 07, 05 5:17pm [+]

'We didn't attack Bush the moment after 9/11 happened.'

No, you waited for the pieces to hit the ground, just as I have.

'Just because you like to attack liberals doesn't mean that you should do it at any time -- if you noticed, herzog, I'm perhaps the biggest conservative-basher on this site, and I made this ballot without blaming conservatives at all.'

Because there's no way whatsoever conservatives could be to blame, it'd be like blaming it on the greens.

Look, there are plenty of people in europe who believe al qaeda is a myth, I don't think I need to tell you about that. And this should have been a wakeup call for them. Otherwise it's pure hypocrisy and anti-american vitriol to say the 911 attacks were faked, because they were against america, and these were real, because they weren't against america. A little consistency here.

Yes, I feel terrible for the british people, they didn't deserve this and I hope all the brits on this site made it through alright. But you'll notice I didn't direct any of my comments at them, but rather at the people who claim this sort of thing is all a hoax. Which makes perfect sense, unless you deny these people exist?
by herzog on Thu Jul 07, 05 6:15pm [+]

hoax? who claimed that?
by Jyl on Thu Jul 07, 05 7:22pm [+]

Nice attempt at humor, there, Zerhog. Too bad you don't actually seem to have a sense of humor.
