PARTISANSHIP & RELATIVE MORALITY

[+] serious ballot by Cathexis
created Wed Jul 20, 05
At one time, we in the US held our elected officials to high standards. If one proved unworthy of our trust, we'd throw the scoundrel out -- no matter who he was. If he belonged to our political party, we recognized that he undermined our principles and was bad for the party, as well as the country. We identified with principles and country first, not party or people.

But these days, it seems that too many of us believe that if we hold "our guy" accountable, that this will somehow aid The Enemy (i.e., political opposition). Therefore, not only do too many of us turn a blind eye to breaches of integrity, many try to actively spin perception (ours and others) to make it seem as if nothing bad has happened, at all.

Many seem to feel it is more important to "win" than to hold to our principles. But what does this say about our assumed high moral standards?

Do you believe that growing political partisanship may be compromising the moral fiber of the United States?

And, in a few years, we'll all be standing around, asking when we started the slide. Let's mark today as the point, then bow our heads in collective shame.

Yes and in Canada as well, it a true sign of insanity to blindly support anyone based on partisanship.
