COMMENTS:
They should give all public land to the citizens and allow them to do what they wish with it, but the government leasing land to private companies is a recipe for environmental disaster.
They don't even try to hide the fact that they are in the pockets of Business. BTW, thc, Big Business is not "the citizens." Small, but critical difference.
It would be easy here to attack the Bushies as raping the land and polluting the air because of their policies, real and proposed. However, the greatest polluter on the planet is the automobile. Hordes of these machines clog our highways, spewing all manner of toxic gasses into the air. As the number one polluter, we need a national focus on reducing automobile emissions though hybrids, use of public transportation, car pooling, etc. The fact is that if you are weeping about the Bush policies allowing business to pollute your air as you drive to work in your pollutant belching automobile, you are a hypocrit. Period. I'm in favor of doing what we can to clean up the environment on all fronts, but we need to realize that this will require all of us, not just government or big business.
^ Yes. So let's decrease our reliance on fossil fuels and PROMOTE energy efficient cars (especially hybrids and fuel cell technology), instead of giving SUV owners a tax break - which the Bush administration continues to do.

Cathexis You didn't understand my comment. I believe public land is a sham. It's really just government land that they allow the public to use in limited ways. It should be given to private citizens AKA the public.
I don't want to fight, I just want to understand. Can 'the citizens' share the land? It looks like the richest old guys would then buy All of it. If democracy is real then the citizens own that land now, it's just been bought out from under us because we didn't care. We're screwing ourselves forever because no one over 50 gives a damn about our air, they'll die rich soon. I'm making one call.
