IS PAT ROBERTSON TELLING THE TRUTH? HE NOW SAYS HE WAS "MISINTERPRETED."

ACTIVE Aug 24,2005 - Mon May 19, 08
(CNN) -- Conservative religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said Wednesday that his remarks about the removal of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez were taken out of context and that he never called for the killing of the Latin American leader.

"I didn't say 'assassination.' I said our special forces should 'take him out.' And 'take him out' can be a number of things, including kidnapping; there are a number of ways to take out a dictator from power besides killing him. I was misinterpreted by the AP , but that happens all the time," Robertson said on "The 700 Club" program. (Watch video)

The controversy began Monday when Robertson called Chavez "a terrific danger" bent on exporting Communism and Islamic extremism across the Americas. (Full story)

"If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think we really ought to go ahead and do it," said Robertson on Monday's program. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war." (Watch Robertson's comments)

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," he said. "We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

So, is Pat Robertson telling the truth when he says that he was misinterpreted? Or is he lying?

I not sure he knows whether he is lying or not anymore.
by cdubatrc on Wed Aug 24, 05 2:41pm [+]

Last week I told someone Chavez should be killed. Its disturbing when Pat Robertson agrees with me.
by VanHelsing on Wed Aug 24, 05 2:44pm [+]

We've seen the video. Is there any question about what he meant? He obviously takes us for retards.
by mojo on Wed Aug 24, 05 3:00pm [+]

Yes its pretty hard to deny. What a stupid place to make such a comment. Robertson makes these comments when he tries to persuade public opinion. Covert operations arent driven by public opinion though so whats the point. I think he's getting senile.
by VanHelsing on Wed Aug 24, 05 3:06pm [+]

The fucker's lying through his teeth, and he knows it.

The quote was cited, "If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war."

That's calling for assassination, period.

And the "take him out" line doesn't hold water either. He can't honestly claim that he wasn't advocating assassination by saying that -- any reasonable person would interpret "take him out" to mean assassination. He most certainly wasn't inferring that a covert operative should take him to dinner and a movie.
by xxxxxxxx on Wed Aug 24, 05 4:34pm [+]

What is the difference between "take him out" and "assassination"? Nothing. He is a lying a**hole.
by FiddleFaddleOnLSD on Wed Aug 24, 05 5:08pm [+]

How did I know he was going to play the "taken out of context" card? I don't buy it and anyone with a brain won't either.
by nuckinfutz on Wed Aug 24, 05 5:22pm [+]

Considering that, on today's 700 Club broadcast, he was ratcheting up the anti-Chavez rhetoric even more, I'd have to say that he's lying though his collection plate. Alleging that Chavez once wrote Carlos the Jackal a fan letter, heading it, "Distinguished Compatriot" is NOT the way to ease back on an issue.
by Truthseeker013 on Wed Aug 24, 05 5:34pm [+]

Cathexis, doesn't he already have one of those?
by Truthseeker013 on Wed Aug 24, 05 5:36pm [+]

Maybe "take him out" meant going out on a date?
by ClosetIguana on Wed Aug 24, 05 6:28pm [+]

"Assassinating" and "take him out" are synonymous in my book. He's trying desperately to cover his ass & is failing miserably. AND he obviously thinks the general public is brainless enough to buy it all. If he feels he was misinterpreted, why did he apologize?

Free speech is a crock. There are many times when it's best to simply keep your mouth shut.
by Walken on Wed Aug 24, 05 10:22pm [+]

Actually, Pat Robertson said "assassinate." I witnessed and recorded it. My mind was boggled. Incredible stupidity and arrogance.

Is this more evidence of that Christian love we hear so much about?

Walken

In Canada he'd be arrested under the hate-crimes act for inciting a violent act on a group or individual.
by ClosetIguana on Fri Aug 26, 05 1:27pm [+]

He's always lying.
by wanderlust1987 on Mon Jul 10, 06 4:29am [+]

it's interesting how people attack a christian when he's made an obvious blunder by something like telling a lie,but instead of criticising the person they jump on this weird belief that his being christian was the base responsibility for his lying.
