ARE STRIP MINES CAUSED BY SUN SPOTS?

Conservatives are fond of being global warming deniers. Despite massive evidence that pollutants dumped by human activities are causing a warming of the earth's atmosphere, conservatives are inclined to believe that the cause could be anything else BUT human influence, and are part of the natural cycle: such things as sunspots, trees, El Nino, etc.

That being the case, could it possible that most other forms of ecological devastation, such as strip mines, deforestation, habitat destruction leading to extinction, urban sprawl, mercury pollution, water pollution, overfishing, etc., are in fact all caused by natural cycles in the environment, such as sunspots?

Yeah, it is ridiculous to assume that something like the earths temperature could in anyway be influenced by the sun. Nobody really knows what the sun does, but it most certainly is not responsible for heating the earth. Suvs do that, and prior to those the entire world was a pleasant 72 degrees for all of enternity, without variation.

The bottom line is both sides of the global warming argument inflate what they know. Since we can't even predict the weather 3 months in advance right now though, I have a bit of skepticism for these models claiming the world's temps will rise so many degrees in 50 years.

And it's ridiculous to assume that heilzog will ever address a topic dead-on, as opposed to his preferred passive-aggressive mode.

And isn't passive-aggressive behavior normally associated with middle-aged women?

So crank, the sun isn't, in your view, responsible in even a slight way for the temperature of the earth? Interesting opinion.

Instead of spinning this issue, all of us need to focus on discovering the truth of the matter and begin working on a real solution.

This should not be a political matter. We all breathe the same air, and if we are doing something that endangers our health and future, we need to something to modify or stop it.

It seems silly to argue that the billions of pounds of all manner of pollutants being pumped continuously into our atmosphere doesn't harm us. We need to find out how much we are being hurt and why. Then we need to work on solutions.

It is stupid and destructive for all of us to spin this as some mindless political issue.

Grif: the entire world will die unless you vote for the democrats! Republicans want the world to burn and the icecaps to melt!

Sound like somone is politicizing the issue? Global warming is a great scare tactic to get votes. Denying it doesn't really get your party anything.

Read some real scientific articles before you start writing about things you obviously don't understand. The references in my lo.com articles are a good place to start.

Herz, my point was/is that everyone needs to get off their soap boxes on this issue and get some real answers. I think the politicization of this issue is resulting in a delay in getting some real science here -- and if indicated -- some solutions in process.

I really do not know the truth of the global warming issue. I would like to discern this through science and not politics.

I recognize and appreciate that scientists will and do differ on this matter. Still, if we could clear the politics from it, maybe some truth would emerge.

Not picking on one party here. Both are guilty of
politicizing the issue.
