SHOULD A "GENERAL AMNESTY" BE GRANTED IN TERMS OF BLAME FOR THE HURRICANE KATRINA DISASTER?

[+] serious ballot by cranky
ACTIVE Sep 07,2005 - Mon Jun 02, 08
It appears that almost no one in a position of authority is blameless in the terrible Hurrican Katrina tragedy from New Orleans city officials right up to President Bush. That being the case, should a general amnesty from blame for everyone involved be declared so that a quality investigation can be done, and appropriate changes made, so that this doesn't happen again? Otherwise, the tendency will be for every guilty politician to point fingers at everyone else and expend most of their energy trying to cover their ass.

COMMENTS:
I don' know, what I have been hearing, everyone from the president on down to the New Orleans bus drivers are the blame for this.

It depends on which political party you belong to in determining the blame.

Impeach the mayor new orleans and the governor of LA, then launch an investigation. They're the only ones who couldn't possibly be innocent in all this.
by herzog on Wed Sep 07, 05 11:01am [+]

everyone should start shaking sticks and hooting at the sky in anger and frustration. anger and frustration caused by not having the fucking brainpower to work out who is to blame for turning america (tiny piece by tiny piece) into a police state.

enjoy it, morons.

I'll save tax payers a lot of money. Blame the hurricane.
by Toxacated on Wed Sep 07, 05 11:18am [+]

The only focus that politicians should be worried about right now is cleaning up, once all that is done then worry about pointing fingers and having an inquiry.

The blame game is already in full flower on the Katrina relief debacle. It is sickening.

The bottom line on Katrina is that it was a Hurricane of unprecedented ferocity, and it struck the city most vulnerable to such a storm. The scope of the flooding in New Orleans just overwhelmed early relief efforts, and I can't imagine anyone responding instantaneously to such a catastrophy.

Rather than playing political football with this disaster, we need to learn from it. Of course, this won't happen. If we politicize global warming, healthcare, and terrorism, how could we not do it with this disaster.

When the dust settles a bit, the FEMA director will be fired because someone has to take the fall.
by xxxxxxxx on Wed Sep 07, 05 12:16pm [+]

I would, right now, focus all the energies on helping those in greatest need. Once lives are no longer in danger, then you can start playing the political games, hoping those who are accountable will be made to answer for what they did or did not do. Starting from the top.

Crank: is there any concievable situation when a black liberal screws up that you would actually lay the blame on that person, and not try to deflect it on to a white conservative? Of course not.

You see the hundreds of buses that nagin left to rust, rather than evacuate people, and you say bush should have done something about it. You know that nagin crammed people into the superdome without food or water, and you say bush should have done something. You know that he did nothing to control rapes and lootings under his watch, and you blame bush.

It's almost pathological crank.

But I'll give you one shot to redemn yourself: is it at all possible that black liberals can be responsible for their own mistakes? Or are they all at the mercy of evil white conservatives?

That's what the governor of Kentucky does whenever his buddies are in trouble.
by weebles48 on Wed Sep 07, 05 2:46pm [+]

I'm with herzog I can't get past the govenor's not calling for evacuation before Sunday.
by everygirl on Wed Sep 07, 05 3:06pm [+]

Alot of people don't seem to understand that Bush actually has no (& I mean zero) power to make the local government of any state do what he wants. He did his best to get Blanco to evacuate the area.

Blaming what's happened on People anymore is retarded and pointless. We just weren't ready, we could hardly even imagine all that's happened and gone wrong.. either it's EVERYBODY's fault or it's NOBODY's fault.
Politicians sitting in rooms and fighting about this should all just go down there and swim around that rancid city helping people out.
by Jyl on Wed Sep 07, 05 8:46pm [+]

I love the response.

Initially 'it's all bushs fault, crucify him!'.

Then when the sheer, unexcusable incompetence of nagin comes out 'let's not point any fingers here'.
by herzog on Wed Sep 07, 05 10:30pm [+]

herzo:

That's nonsense, simply another of your paranoid, chip-on-the-shoulder delusions. I've not heard anyone crying to crucify your lord and savior, George the Christ.

As for Nagin, you were hollering for his head from day one. But then you would: he's black.

(I hope hz's brainy response had something to do with mine, because *I said from the very beginning NOT to blame this on anybody.. Keep that up wizard, any second now you're gonna prove whatever your piggy point is :)

(here's a helpful hint - using race in almost all your arguments isn't gonna prove anything)
