this should be interesting :)
United states. I don't trust that the rest of Europe has got our back. Pref a United States without Bush at the helm though.
hmmmm
The UK is already in the European Union though.
This is an absurd question. Sorry, no offense. Did you stop to think that in reality, they don't have to be either? The UK has and can do just fine on their own. Its assumptive questions like this that create ill will between us. You may have only meant it as a general hypothetical question, which I hope is the case.
Here's another question: How about if the UK and the USA just united in every way? Meaning we have a new currency, a whole new name, we can travel and work there and vice versa, we have new passports, a new constitution, and all citizens have the same exact rights. And...a person living in the UK could run for President (or what ever we call the office). I'm talking a full and complete union. I'd be cool with that. Would most Americans??
^ That's what I took the question to mean.
^I took it to mean that the UK become a state, like NY for example.
no way should we ally ourselves with the europeans. the continetnals, especially the french, are our bitterest enemies. there is no way we can trust them.theres too much bad blood there. its in the best interests of the UK to ally itself to the worlds most powerful nation. Howver we should make sure we r not a 'sheep' and have the capablities to act on our own. we are the worlds 4th richest country for gods sake!
britpatriot, can I ask why? From Napoleon Bonaparte? I kind of have always wondered why the Brits and the French have kept up such a rivalry when they both have more recent history with the Germans? Hopefully, you can shed some light on that for me.
What it gets down to is: who would you trust to get your back when things are at their worst?
^ What Herzog said. I personally think the French Government is self serving.
But, wait, won't the Germans "consider" putting you Brits into an oven? if you piss them off enough?
EU... on balance, I prefer the way Europeans think.
Inter, our history with Germany is only a blip in recent history. The French rivalry goes back about 800 years. It's ingrained in our society.
Neither, thank-you.
Oh pick us!!! We want you guys!! Pick us!!!
The ballot description is obviously bias towards the America option, to me that makes this a bad ballot. You gave the only benefit of the Europe option as "being on the same continent". If thats really all you can think of then I guess you know next to nothing about Europe. And i assure you there are many more negatives attributed to the America option than you mention.
kingAlfredthegreat I wasn't trying to be bias. If had wanted to I could have made many more nagative points about America and many more good points about Europe. I could have the writting up top extremley long on the subject if I had wanted to. It didn't sound all that bias to me while I was tyeping it. If you don't like it pretend it's even. Then what would your oppinion be?
shutup dingletard. Brit, So you, personally, would be more willing to form a political union with germany than France?
i would not be willing to form a political union with either, is the simple and honest answer. but most English are descended from the germans (i am in fact descended from the Normans), so we have a lot in common with Germany. the 1st world war was just a case of the the two toughest kids in the playground or the meanest dogs in the yard, while WW2
...While WW2 was a travesty. It should of been Britain,Germany and Japan destroying the evil USSR rather than Britain, the USA and USSR destroying Germany and Japan.
^ I hope everyone here realises that this raving lunatic does not speak for the majority of British people.
British patriot most Americans are desended from Germans aswell. In fact it's by a long shot. So whats your point?
What brit is trying to say is that we have been at war non-stop with France for the last 800 years and i mean non-stop, out of all that time there has been only a few decades of peace. I for one think, and i'm sure i speak for many other Brits, we would choose nither, simple. but if i had to choose between the two i would go for the US, not because they are more powerfull but because i trust them more than a bunch of Europian backstabbers. I do like Patch's idea of a complete union, sounds grand but you can safely say it's like that now anyway.
Wisehead you abandoned Britain long ago so how can you come here and say that Brit doesn't speak for us when you left Britain for good, surely it should be the other way round.
Voted : United States
Please note, my asnwer should be taken in the context of; "If I HAD to choose." One preliminary point I would make is that Britain would NOT become the 51st state. England, Scotland, Wales, and Ulster would become the 51st, 52nd, 53rd, & 54th. In many ways, this could actually be quite mutually benificial. For starters, if Eire then became the 55th state Northern Ireland would be finally fully united with both Southern Ireland AND Britain. From the point of view of America, it would be beneficial as their culture comes from ours. America has lost its way somewhat in recent times. It is often stated that - as a young country - is somewhat like a frustrated, yet overconfident adolescent. Maybe it is time for this youngster to accept its own limitations and come back under its parent's wings. Britain should ascend rather condescend, and welcome them back with open arms. A fresh re-injection of ancestral cultural DNA - and the bitterly earned experience that comes with it - into the mix could help America to go back to the principals of its original founding fathers. As a member of this strengthened union, Britain would reap the same benefits as the other states therein. Still rather go it alone, though...
