Not what you say. But I certainly question the "consensus" on its cause as well as its cure.

This planet has gone through many different weather patterns during its' existence. What makes you think, if there really are climatical changes right now, that it isn't just a normal weather phase of the Earth?
by ceejjj on Fri Sep 30, 05 10:58pm [+]

ceejjj, I think we as humans with our relatively short lifespans tend to view "normal" (at least as far as weather patterns) as something that happens anually, (or a bit more often or less often than anually.)

No no no don't visit the site that says there can be any other explanation for the world coming to an end other than that George Bush wouldn't sign a fucking piece of paper in Japan! Remember robots, your pat answer we've issued to you: "BLAME AMERICA"!!! no matter what, didn't get that promotion at work? America did it....can't get laid in a French whorehouse because you're too ugly? AMERICA'S fault...Zzzzzzzzz

No, I personally believe that human activity is causing weather changes. However, many of the claims have yet to actually be proven scientifically. What you get are a lot of computer models based on assumptions, but no real proof those assumptions are correct. Right now scientists can not even predict what years will be El Nino/La Nina years so forgive me if I don't put much stock into forcasts that go 50 years into the future.

Even when certain experimental errors are taken into account, I still believe the Earth is warming.

Check out my articles on LO.com. I have a short series on global warming.

Here's a novel idea: even if global warming is being caused by the sun's temperature and it's direct effect on the earth, it is still a serious situation.

For argument's sake, lets say we all agree that the sun is mostly to blame; the fact is, there are so many pollutants trapped in our atmosphere, that it is dramatically compounding the problem and no one can refute that. What happens is as the surface of the earth warms, the heat is trapped because of pollutants in our mid and upper atmosphere...this leads to an increase in humidity, rain, and ozone. This is why breathing problems are rising and an alarming rate.

The fact that the heat is trapped also magnifies the effects of the pollutants we are emitting all over the globe and the trapped heat causes very dangerous weather patterns to emerget...ice melts and enters the ocean, which is causing de-salinization, which can affect marine life and which changes the temperature of the currents, which alters its pattern....etc., etc., etc.

So to anyone who says "oh please, mankind is not causing global warming, the sun is," fine. But we still need to address it and guess what, all those gases and pollutants mean that the increased heat is trapped and it just gets hotter.......... See the picture?

Add to this that we are de-foresting the planent and that means there is less clean oxygen produced and there is less shade, so the hot sun beats down on us and our ozone has a hole in it, so that makes it worse and...with the increase in rain, we have flooding because we have altered the landscape so dramatically.

Whatever the cause of global warming, the fact is, we have to do something and that still brings us back to having to reduce emissions of all pollutants.

did you notice your batrillion $$$ place in the Hamptons..."globaly warming" this summer...or was it just "Diddy and Fiddy" on either side of yo property gettin that party started right??? LOL ( I love you Patchy, but couldn't pass that one up!) :P :P :P

No, I do not, Your Nibs. I'm living proof that it's going on.
by Truthseeker013 on Sat Oct 01, 05 5:01pm [+]

Why is it the left tends to believe it and the right doesn't?
by ClosetIguana on Mon Oct 03, 05 5:30pm [+]

^Because the Right are supported by huge corporations whose sole business is to make money. It costs to be environmentally cleaner. Why waste money on that when we can build more helicopter gunships?

The question isn't whether global warming exists and/or whether it effects the Earth's weather/climate.

The real question should be: If global warming is occurring... are humans causing it?

The answer to that question is simple. There simply isn't enough information available to determine whether humans are causing global warming.

Accurate weather history only goes back approximately 200 years. The Earth is millions of years old. The Earth has gone through ice ages and subsequently warmed, and there were no humans causing the global warming then. The data isn't there.
