My vote Japan. But why is America on the list?
The average Japanese IQ is 105, but I'm more impressed by the people of Finland.
A lot of people think Japan has a great education system but as someone who has lived there I know that is a myth. In Japan once you get into college (the only part of education that is worthwhile!) you stop learning. In Japan university is seen as a kind of gap year between all the years of hard work spent cramming for exams and a lifetime of office work. In fact, at the top university (tokyoU) a professor once gave a test where all students had to do was identify his picture. Half the class failed, they had skiped so much. Despite this if you haven't gone to a top university your seen as worthless in Japan. A while back there was a case of a well known scientist having his work go unrecognized because he graduated from a tech college. Add that to the fact that I was hired because, as my boss put it, "Japanese don't know how to think."
And you can see why I'm upset with the U.S. being dissed. True, most people in America are dead ignorant, but I remember a poll in Japan. When asked to locate America the majority of Japanese actually thought it was somewhere in China! Sorry I ranted but I think this self-hating attitude is the main problem in the States nowadays. When asked about things they suck at (like healthcare or economics) Americans think they are the best but when people bring up something they lead the world in (like science and education!)they talk about how terrible they are at it, and the rest of the world buys into this stupidity! I picked Finland because on the whole I think the people are more intelligent, but America is certainly intellectually superior to Japan.

I'd say Britain because we have invented things that have revolutionized the world.
I don't rate Japan being very clever as a nation, they seemed to be stuck in their own little anime universe building robots, trains and things that are no use to anyone else outside of Japan.
I consider the US as being quite a clever bunch of chaps, especially when it comes down to finding better ways to kill people but the key word in there is "quite". I do find that some Americans that i've met are quite ignorant when it comes to anything outside of the US.
I heard there was a test in New York where they asked a hundred people if they could find New York on a map of the US, only 31 people got it right. They did the same to see if people could point out the Iraq on the map, most thought it was near China, russia and even Brazil!

What dose the term smartest people imply?
Happiest because of some achievement? The will to strive for more? The ability to process information? The ability to dominate others? True democracy?
If it is inventers per population, it’s defiantly Hungary, Germany then Finland. In regards, in most cases the groups of inventors are people ethnically diverse to increase creativity.
If we are measuring inventions patented, its either the US or Britain. In this cause, they were the ones to think up patenting laws and having the will power to rape, leach and plunder the world, they had the resources to produce the inventions first. But a population as a whole having low morals is defiantly not smart.
We could list many other scenarios and find another country on top of each list.

English is my 7th language. I graduated high school as class Valedictorian, I have a Bachelors Degree with a 4.0. I can’t find a decent job.

The word smart has a strongly varied definition in every culture on our globe.

Apparently, the smartest country is South Korea, with a national average IQ of 106. Britain has 100, ranking it 12th in the world. However, we had obtained an IQ of 104 in 2004, but have apparently managed to drop 4 IQ points in the last 2 years.
As for America, articles I've read seem to alternate between 95 and 98.
And as for my IQ, one test put me at 130 and another put me at 129. I know some users may find it hard to believe, but that's what I got.
btw, Israel has an IQ of 94, ranking it 33rd, and India had 81, meaning it's one of the lowest in the world. Where the hell those votes came from for those countries, I don't know.

Also, we don't have the fastest tank by a loooong shot, but we DO have the best tank, which is nigh-on unstoppable. Nothing fielded by the infantry of any country is guarenteed to take it out; even modern tanks would have a big problem with it.

The US is a much younger country than the UK. The US has invented and patented a plethora of things. I could talk about NASA alone and the inventions that have come off as a direct result from them. There's even a book written on it. The patent office crap is not an excuse to prove the US is smarter. Many of the items you use in your day to day lives was invented in Britain, including that rather flash piece of equipment in front of you when you type your reply, even the material it is made out of is a British invention. When we talk about inventions we are talking about products and machines that change the way we live like the Jet engine, the aeroplane or the computer, not something like a hair dryer that can float in the bath. every country in the world has invented things that have changed the way we lived so the patent office idea isn't a good way of saying that the US is more intellegent as a nation than any other country.

Anyway, its far superior to what's on any other tank in the world. Mindy, most of the most useful things have been invented by the UK. The US has done much, and I do admit that, though.
That powdered milk thing was actually a Top Gear joke, but was a bit stupid of me using it as no-one outside the UK would realise that. I take that back, but I still stand by saying the UK has invented and done much more.
And while you did invent most popular kinds of music, the UK has perfected modern music (as in from the 60's to modern day), which is the general conception of many. I could give a huge list of amazing bands from this country, but whenever I get into that arguement (not on this site), no-one can has ever managed to produce a list of US bands which matches the quantity and quality of my list.
As for the EU... I don't have much respect for the EU, to be honest.
The UK's economy is growing at a good speed remember, not as slow as the EU's average. Its the fastest growing economy in the EU.
Basically the reason the EU isn't growing so fast is, it can never work together as efficiently as the US can. The US is just one huge country, ruled by one governing body which is accepted by everyone; the EU is made up of 30 or so different governments each with their own individual views.
While the EU may work out in the long run, it probably will never work quite as well as the US for that excact reason.
Oh, and the reason people say the US is stupid is due to the average IQ. Blame the government, blame the schools, blame the southern states, whatever, but that's the reason.
We don't have a space plan... its something our government doesn't really see as worth our time and money seen as NASA got there first. We've done enough for this world anyway.

When I was growing up I had a friend whose father was a NASA engineer, he helped design the space shuttle. He would tell us about the space program the benefits it has for humantiy,technologies that have come directly from the space program and that have been applied directly to civilian life. So I'm going to answer the ballot question as to who I think is smarter. I'm impressed with east asians. I live among many koreans, japanese and chinese. I don't consider them naturally smarter but they place a very strong emphasis on education. I am also an admirer of Greece and the contributions they have made in their countries history. If you are talking about computers spartan you are simply outmatched. The United States has done more for computers than any group or combination of nations combine. We did in fact invent the internet, you are most likely using microsoft, and even if you are not using microsoft there is a 95% chance that the operating system is American, we did invent the microprocessor and the computer you are using now would be nothing but a piece of junk without it. We make the most computers, software out of all countries combine. The smartest people are the Finnish. It's consistently proven in student exams (like SAT's ect.) Not only that, but they do it while having the highest rates of depression, bi-polar and other mental illnesses (probably due to the fact that the country is located near/in the arctic.)

As for Israel's average IQ of about 124, I'm surprised, really. I would have thought it to be higher than that. 124 is not extraordinarily high but it is higher than what is considered "average" (IQ of 100).

World War 1 was a stale-mate, no one was going anywhere and Germany was definitely losing because of resources before the US even contimplated entering and even then you joined in the Last year or so of the war. World War 2, Half way through this time and then Germany was losing the Eastern front, Britain Obliterated the luftwaffe as well as helping you fight the Japs. It was America's small contribution to both wars that got them to where they are today, and what i mean when i say "small contribution" i mean time scale not when we talk about man power and stuff. The fact is Britain was crippled after both conflicts and the US filled the power vacumm, simple as that.

Okay no offense, I only came to this site today, but so far almost all of the ballots that have to do with countries (which country is the best? has the best women? etc.) USA always wins with a great majority but somehow I don't think that's a realistic representation.
Anyways, I voted for Japan, since they seem to put a lot of effort into their education, with prep schools and such. Finland as well I would say.
i am not a smart man, but I know what love is. my IQ is about 75, some of you might say I am in the border line of mental retardation, but I am determined to make the best of it. I think real smartness have nothing to do with nationality or race. I don't think anyone can call themselve smart now days unless have an IQ of 170 or above. There are many ways to solve a problem, but smart people actually solve it in the most simple way. It's about seeing the big picture and the details at the same time, it's about imagination, and it's about focus.
So my point is the average IQ is only an indication of a nation's educational and health systems. While the truly smart ones is more like an evolutionary leap within the brain. Born with a very good head on the shoulder sort of speaking. I believe human's ability to evolve. Perhaps in the future, Having an IQ of 180 will be a standard for any human being. So why brag about your IQ scores?

Actually the Japanese developed the size of the flashy thing in front of you. The UK is responsible for a great many things...and so is the usa.
