So like this dude and I were talking, and I couldn't figure out what ethnicity he was, so I asked what he was, and he said he was "Indian." So I said, "Oh, you mean Native American?" Hey, PC is the way these days. He said, "No, I'm Indian." I said, "No, you're Native American." He said, "I'M INDIAN!" And I said, "It's not Indian! It's Native American!" He got pissed off at me and told me he was from Calcutta. I don't know what state Calcutta is, nor why that would matter in this conversation. Anyways, eventually he gave up and stormed off. I don't get it. Why wouldn't he accept the more accurate term for his kind?

I know. Like I said, I'm tired and jumped the gun by not reading it through correctly. I hear a lot of negative jokes/comments about my race, it makes one sensitive, and I jumped the gun. Like I said I am sincerly ashamed. Sorry. :(

there has got to be a better term. aside from "indian", every other term (native, indigenous, aboriginal, first nations) all just mean "guys who were here first". isn't there an actual NAME for them?
