I suppose it's their choice, but I don't know why a person would not allow comments.

lots of times 5 or 10 people will comment on something without anyone casting a vote, that drives Me crazy, that's why there's Lo I think.
On the B&W side casting real votes should be required, every time you cast one it makes the ballot come back out on the right too- >

(This is not a anti-comment comment, I just wish everyone here felt more like casting votes, 'cause Voting's pretty cool :)

Sometimes you might want to avoid a comment war. So in that case it is ok. But most of the time it seems to used when the choices are all bogus and extremely biased.

jyl, I don't say to myself "I'm not going to vote on this ballot", but I sometimes make comments and forget to go back and vote, I think that is probably what happens with a lot of people. But, when someone does not allow addtional choices and I don't agree with the ones listed, I'm not going to vote.

Interesting question.

There are a few ballots I've run across, for which there should be no room for commentary, because of the risk of ballot sabotage. In those cases, I think that the door should be firmly closed, barred and have a guard dog posted.

Voting without commenting is like answering questions on a test. example:
2+2=___?

A) 3+1 C)7-3
B) 5-1 D)8-2

See, you know a more definitive answer is 4, but you can't comment. You must choose one of my answers. That sux.

But there should always be some choice answers listed. New users need time to digest the choices and the manners we require on different ballots, like funny or serious. Voting allows new users to contribute quietly while staying interested in the ballot and have time to look and learn. Comments let us communicate to each other. without that and you'd just be talking to a computer!
