Got to go with the man with the arm from left field, Roberto Clemte

Yes, you do need to say more. No-hitters and Ks aren't the benchmarks for great pitchers. Ryan's win percentage was barely over 0.500 (0.525). Despite leading the league in K's 11 times, he led the league in walks EIGHT times. His .309 on-base-%-against isn't even in the top 100 of pitchers. Nolan Ryan is possibly the most powerful pitcher ever and a sure HOFer, but not the best pitcher ever and certainly not the best player ever.

Willie Mays is bar none the best player of the modern day. Best classic player would have to be Joe Jackson or Cobb

You know I have to jump in on this Ryan thing. why do you people constantly look at Ryans winning %. HE PLAYED FOR 2 loser teams who couldnt produce The California Angels and The Houston Astros!! Yeah I know If he was a Yankee he would have been the greatest pitcher that ever lived. Gimmeee a Break!!!

Voted : babe ruth
no one else made as much of an impact in baseball quite like the Babe, not even Jackie Robinson made more of an impact.
