Yes, you do need to say more. No-hitters and Ks aren't the benchmarks for great pitchers. Ryan's win percentage was barely over 0.500 (0.525). Despite leading the league in K's 11 times, he led the league in walks EIGHT times. His .309 on-base-%-against isn't even in the top 100 of pitchers. Nolan Ryan is possibly the most powerful pitcher ever and a sure HOFer, but not the best pitcher ever and certainly not the best player ever.

Willie Mays is bar none the best player of the modern day. Best classic player would have to be Joe Jackson or Cobb

You know I have to jump in on this Ryan thing. why do you people constantly look at Ryans winning %. HE PLAYED FOR 2 loser teams who couldnt produce The California Angels and The Houston Astros!! Yeah I know If he was a Yankee he would have been the greatest pitcher that ever lived. Gimmeee a Break!!!

Voted : rickey henderson
OK Let's see, Rickey walks and gets on base and not only did Rickey pass Babe Ruth in walks. But Ruth mostly got walked INTENTIALLY, do to his massive powerful swing. Where as Rickey just had a great eye, and Rickey had also kept a low batting stance. Then, Rickey would proceed on being a the Thief that he is known to be, and steal 2nd base and 3rd base. All the while in doing so, he had 50% of the pitcher's, catcher's and the rest of the opposing teams attention on him stealing the next base, and the other half of their attention on the batter (i.e. Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, and others). And then either by him getting batted in, or by stealing home plate, he would score another RUN for his team. So therefore since Rickey had helped his team win, in by scoring runs for them to win games, He even more of a complete team player. For without him on the base paths, then why did Canseco and McGwire get pitched so many fastballs that they just turned on and hit for homers, or were they pitched mostly fastballs trying to get the ball to beat Rickey to that next base, hmm who knows ??!!!

Noland Ryan was just a .500 pitcher who struck out a lot of guys.

Also Pitchers shouldn't count as "baseball players" since they only play in 40 games a year for starters and others less the eight innings if they play in more than 40 games.

The are Part-Time Baseball Players.
