COMMENTS:
I guesa there is alot of guilt in germany. I'm not sure about german-american but I know for a fact that students in germany learn of the holocaust and stuff, and a known fact is that german is quite tolerant and not anti-Semitic any more.
Herzog's anti-semitic. The Arabs are a semite race.
Where is this ballot coming from? I just don't get it. A lot of conservatives and and a lot of liberals have supported Israel and Jewish causes. I don't think that "guilt" is the driving factor. Liberals have also been traditionally the most fervent supporters of Israel. Many still are. Does this come out of a sense of guilt? I also know a number of conservatives - some of whom are likely German-Americans. I don't see them as being anymore intolerant than anyone else. Maybe you need to get out more cranky. Lots of conservatives (and Texans) are good people. Germans are good people. I've been there a few times and studied there and I know this to be true.
They hate blacks, Hispanics, liberals, environmentalists, Easterners, campus culture, people who are anti-war. They are intolerant and bigoted to the extreme. And they practically spit blood, while their heads spin around, when they talk about Muslims. Being an American of German descent, I take offense at the above statement. i do not hate blacks, hispanics, or any other minority. I do hate the lax attitude that this government has on illegal immigration, border security, and foreign dependence. I resent the environmentalists for not allowing the US to stand on its own in the natural resource department becuase it will mess with the migration patterns of some pigeon or the mating grounds of some endangered caribou. I also resent the so-called "campus culture" that will protest any issue, as long as CNN says it's ok and it is anti-Bush. I resent all the "pro troops" people that demoralize us with thier bring them home now rhetoric. I resent how liberals seem to exist only to attack Bush, any will flip flop any issue to serve themselves. I hate that they keep pushing for socialist programs like national healthcare and more and more government influence on what I can listen to (fairness doctrine). I hate that the liberal media will go all out to incriminate US soldiers who are at war in a hostile country, but completely ignore hundreds of thousands of deaths in Africa. I like the Israeli's because of their stanz against the muslim nations. Israel doesn't take shit from anyone. If palestinian terrorists blow up a car in a market, 2 israeli attack helicopters decimate a city block. To sum it all up, aren't you a hypocrite for being racist against people of german descent? You group us all as Nazi's, when you are just as bigoted and intolerant. There is no one in this nation moreso than the far left.
Voted : Yes, they have a profound sense of shame and guilt
I have some German friends in a social club. I asked them to translate some German words. I didn't know it was from the Holocaust-I thought it was from a German factory. They freaked out big time, almost crying, and said they wouldn't do it. They said it was about a very bad time in Germany's past and they would not translate it. It was the Arbeit Macht Frei inscription (on the gates at Dachau, but I din't know it was from a that concentration camp then). I later found out what it meant on my own. Americans arent afraid to talk about slavery, though. Addressing it would help it not to happen again, I believe.

Yes, some of them do. When I was about 19 I was working with a woman from Germany who refused to wait on some Jewish women one day. It wasn't that she didn't like them, it was because she was afraid that they would know she was German because of her accent. She even told me that she felt shame for what had happened during WWII, even though she was just a child in Germany during the war.
