The greatest president of the 20th century.
^Bullshit. He was a master of domestic policy, and I do agree with his above statement, but that was it ended. Other than that, he was an imperialistic warmonger. Remember the Panama secession?
Immigrants should practise the culture, obey the law and speak the language of the country they migrated to.
"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin." Shame these ideals arent lived upto by some on this site and in society at large...
Shame so few immigrants follow that ideal any more. Treat them as equals, if they honestly want to become americans and work to assimilate, you seemed to have missed that part. Living in your own communities, flying flags other than the american flag, speaking a language other than english, not making any efforts towards citizenship, these are not the actions of people who are faithfully trying to become americans or assimilate.
Steelhamster- Yes it is a shame that there is preferential treatment enforced through laws.
"and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." - that seems a bit much to me. I for one am for compassion without borders :)
I have no problem with people waving flags of other countries, as it's their right to have pride in whatever country they're from. However, just because they wave another flag doesn't mean they're not Americans and shouldn't make an effort to assimilate into today's American culture. It's their responsibility to do as such if they want to prosper in America.
