I remember hearing so called "experts" saying it would do the opposite, countries would think twice before doing anything USA didn't want or same thing could happen to them. I guess that back fired

Clearly yes. We squandered diplomatic capital and established an image of being war mongering idiots whos eword couldn't be trusted.

no, we now have troops based on either side of Iran, and two carrier groups in the gulf. I think we are well suited to deal with any threat.

I think being in Iraq helps with our problem with Iran. We can simply go from Iraq to Iran with the troops we have there if needed. Also now that we have a better government built in Iraq i think that will help because we can build bases in Iraq like in Isreal to keep control over the Middle East.
