Isn't it in the American Constitution that US money should be intrinsically worth its face value. i.e. silver and gold coins should actually be made of silver and gold, etc. I expect that's something to do with it.

Wow - I didn't expect it to be that long ago. Well, given the zillion trillion US debt, I expect it'll be a long time until the $ is worth anything again. I heard part of the reason for attacking the Middle East is because they value the Euro more these days.
