Oh yeah, the proper response to dealing with a poor border country is to take actions that make them poorer. That will resolve all of our problems.
Cath: we've been giving them aid since mexico came in to being. I doubt the money is being used to actually help any mexicans, more likely it's lining the pockets of mexican officials. So we take away their supplemental income and I get the feeling they will suddenly take an interest in the issue. The US did not make mexico poor and no amount of aid will make a difference if the government is corrupt and has no interest in fixing the problems. For instance, we give far more to africa, have they improved as a result?
Now *that* I can get behind.
"Not returned the favor in any way?" They've certainly given plenty of dirt cheap labor to Republican businessmen.
No more aid to anyone. America needs the money and America should get the money. Not Mexico, not Egypt, not Israel, not Kosovo, but America. If it means that other nations may fall back economically then so be it, we have a deficit of our own to work on. 140 mil isn't a lot but I'm sure it can be used on something better than a corrupt Mexican government.
^ well I could agree with that as well. I was trying to make a specific point about mexico here, but cutting off all aid would be just as good.
Ot won't make any difference on the US side.

Since 2001, we've given over 30 BILLION in foreign aid to Israel, and they not returned the favor in any way, either. The U.S.'s foreign aid scheme is broken and needs a major overhaul.
^It gave a load of money to Egypt too and Egypt, like Israel gave nothing in return.
Oh my God my conservative self agress with Liberal Demorcrate.
