COMMENTS:
I is a subject, me is an object.......
don't know much, but i knows me grammar
Damn! Americans giving us Brits English lessons!!!!
if you take away "and my friend" you have me. "the man saw me." you wouldn't say, "the man saw i."
i can't believe 6 people voted for the second choice. basic stuff here.
ummmm yea i meant 2 click the other one ;)
** karma **
Take away the "my friend" caveat...
The first one.
I would have said it was the second one as it sounds like something Queen Victoria would have said. - but i am from England, all you Americans listen to the man from the capital of your mother nation... "The geezer saw me and me mate".

Honestly, I'm not sure that *either* is correct. Seeing that, my first impulse is to say "The man saw my friend and me."

The first, since the 1st person pronoun is used as an object rather than a subject. But I'll admit, it doesn't sound right, does it. One easy guide: Substitute 'he' or 'him' and see which sounds better. He = subject (or I), Him = object (or me).
