COMMENTS:
I just feel that if some have such a strong support for giving illegal immigrants citizenship, then they must have some sympathy with this idea? Or should poor Mexicans only be given preference if they successfully manage to cross the border? That's cold-hearted isn't it?
Should they become the 51st state? Of course not ... the landmass and population is too great. How about becoming the 51st through 55th states.
More seriously: From my perspective, I'd have no problem with it. Now, that may be perceived as an arrogant offer, since many will value their National Identity, culture, and such. But ... if they wanted to ... sure. National boundaries seem to get more arbitrary with every generation, anyway.
Cathexis- Mexico's culture? Don't worry. Federalism would protect Mexican culture in the sam manner that it supposedly protects Quebecois culture in Canada. But if this is done, the US would suddenly ahve an uncomfortable border with Guatemala, and illegal immigrants from there. Should Guatemala be let in as well? and Belize? and...? It could go on and on, couldn't it?
Dont worry, in the future America will have to declare war against Mexico because Mexico will start harboring terrorists and helping them cross the U.S. border. Then once America has taken over Mexico (after the war), we'll make the land into states.
With Vincente Fox strutting around the U.S. making his speeches and demands, you would think it was the other way 'round. "This question is directed more toward those who are against cracking down on illegal immigration." Are you referring to wealthy Republicans?
cranky- ""This question is directed more toward those who are against cracking down on illegal immigration." Are you referring to wealthy Republicans?" - I am referring to anyone that opposes cracking down on illegal immigration. Mexico as part of the US would mean more access for corporations, and more people willing to work for low pay.
Soc: Yup ... definitely aspects that would have to be looked at and addressed. But I vie wthose as problems to be solved, not 'stoppers.' As to the culture ... like I said, I have no problem, if that was their desire.
I don't think they want to. So no. Why would they when they get all the advantages of citizenship without any of the hardships.
10% of the Mexican pop lives in America,I think Mexico is already the 51st state. Viva la Reconquista!
hell no Mexicans are the cause of most economic and social problems in this country already.
The word "Amexica" is already being used. We are slowly becoming more 3rd world. We have been in a recession for years, but don't know it. Mainly because the government has hushed the media from using the word. So as to prevent panic and people hoarding more of their money from circulation. China has bought 80% of our debt. The average Amexican has -2% in savings.(yes that is a negative sign) The popularity of A.R.M. and interest only loans has risen. Guess what happened just before the Great Depression? Education has gone to hell. Something like 30% of all americans can't point to New York City on a map. College graduates never learn how to balance a checkbook. We rank second to last on geography knowledge in the whole world. I've probably made a bunch of grammatical errors in this short statement. All the signs are there. I say everybody move to Sweeden and Switzerland. They have the most stable economies. They are neutral. They don't pick fights or bully any other countries. Most importantly, they have beautiful women. I assume they have beer. Sounds perfect. Now if i could just rub two pennies together here in Amexica, I could afford the plane ticket out.
i think yes. because bush is an idiot and this would probably be a dumb yet good thing of him to do. so he should do it.
