True. I've heard of this case before.

You'd think the lawyer (of all people) would have known the insurance company would get him for destroying in own insured property in order to file a claim.

Yeah. Just to be sure though I looked into it on both westlaw and findlaw. There is no case but there is a reference to the myth at snopes . com.
