Ever since I was two, I've gone to a barber with the following instructions- "Cut until you hit skin, then go a little further."
My parents take all of us to the same place every one of us has gone for years. Well in all truthfullness, they don't take me anymore, but we all go there. They're great!
My mom used to take me to see a stylist. I then went on my own to a barber. There's no noticeable difference to me, other than the fact that a stylist costs around 3x more and the atmosphere at the barber's is a lot more laid-back.
