The EPA is finally improving it’s antiquated mileage rating system for cars and trucks. The biggest losers? Hybrids. Many drivers have ponied up thousands of extra dollars only to find out that the expected fuel economy has fallen way short of the window sticker EPA mileage rating, in some cases by as much as 33 percent (60 mpg dropping to 40 mpg).

This also effects regular engine cars, but not nearly so dramatically. For instance, a regular internal combustion non hybrid car that had gotten a 40 mpg EPA rating will now likely have a 36 mpg EPA rating. With only a 4 mpg difference between a hybrid and a gas powered competitor, is the inflated price of the hybrid worth the cost? Will this effect your decision to buy a hybrid?

No, I will still buy a hybrid 4
Yes, this will make me think twice about a hybrid 3
No, I never wanted one of these goofy looking shit boxes. 3

COMMENTS:
No, a hybrid still gets way better mileage than a non hybrid no matter how you rate it, in North America where gas is still pretty cheap its questionable about if the premium price is worth it, but in Europe its a no brainer.
