COMMENTS:
A tough hypothetical call. As it is now, he would probably beat Hillary. But through the primary and actual campaign, his continued pandering to the Right (especially the religious right) would lose him the people that initially respected him for standing apart from the group that had hijacked the GOP. However, the question is academic. I will go on record now as predicting that McCain will not win his party's nomination. The Religious Right has a long memory and I do not believe they will forgive him his previous honesty (nor will they trust that he is a 'convert' to their cause). McCain will never have a chance to face-off against Hillary because his Party will nominate someone more in step with their agenda.
IF McCain could be nominated and IF he hadn't compromised his principles by starting to cozy up to GOP extremists and the Religious Right, THEN I might agree. But ... sadly, that McCain is no longer with us.
I definitely think America is looking for someone more moderate and less divisive this time around. That being said, McCain would beat Clinton, but it would be closer if there was a strong Democratic candidate, like Biden (-though I'm not sure how moderate he is.)
Pandering to the religious right never hurt Reagan, Bush 1, Dubya. It isn't going to hurt McCain. People aren't going to vote for Hillary. She isn't a liberal and all she has been doing recently is pander to the right. Another wishy washy politician.
I hope neither McCain or Clinton become President.
I'm not going to say who can beat whom right now. We've still got two years and change before the election, and a lot of people can put mouths in feet between now and then.
It depends on the Democrat. If it's Wesley Clark or Howard Dean then no, I don't think he can do it. If it's Hillary then yes. But politics is politics. The public is gullible. Most of the votes are gained by people who don't understand what politics is and who they're voting for. There's also a lot voting that takes place where the people vote for a candidate because he/she has one single same view as the voter. The American public really needs to wise up when voting. So it can go either way, it all depends on how the politician plays the cards. I REALLY hope that Hillary doesn't get nominated. If she does then it's just going to be another wasted election no different than '04.
I Think John McCain, Will Beat Hilary When It Comes To Who Will Lead Our Country. We Must Have A Powerful Learder In Our Would Today. And Senator Hilary Clinton Scares Me.
Voted : No, McCain cannot beat Hillary Clinton
"I hated the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live." -- John McCain 2000. My bet is the media is waiting for him to win the nomination before they start bringing all of his baggage to light. Then it'll be too late to run a decent Republican. Nobody is even talking about the Keating Five scandal or his father covering up the Israeli bombing of the U.S.S. Liberty in 1967.
well with the computerized elections THEY can do anything they want.
Apparently he hasn't.
