Well, to be honest we've never had any of our children put to sleep, but to be honest I've been tempted :o)

Hey Internalcolonel I am sure you might be doing one of your British sour-chasms funnies but on the off chance you are not there is a difference between animals and humans. So when we had to put them to sleep it is because they are too sick to maintain and it is a very traumatic decision to have to make. When your pet that you have had for 14 years that you have taken care of and treated through sickness and health and she is so sick that she has to be kept in a box 24 hours a day it is no laughing matter to have to put them down. It is no different than when a human is to sick and in pain that we usually OD them on morphine to put them out of their misery so what is the big deal with a lower life form that has no way of telling us to put them out of their misery
I love my dog and cat, and I don't like kids... so I guess I need to make this new response.
