A lot of it (I know i'll get blasted) is porn. Someone once told me that characters are drawn that way because they're making fun of Westerners. I dunno aobu that, but it's not as dynamic as Western style art. Say, if you compare the way, say, X-men is drawn or Spiderman, or Superman, you get the picture, anime has nothing on it. It's just not as nice looking as Western style art, but a lot of ppl like it, because anime is rather racy and (according to some), funny.

^All I'm gonna say about it being porn is that it is porn if you use it for that purpose.
Ok as for the eyes a lot of info states that they are making fun of westerners but by what I have also been reading it is much easier to show emotions with the eyes bigger.
The droplets and squiggles are other ways of showing emotions.

The style/ representation is uniform because ... it is a style of animation.
IMO, that's like noting that all Impressionist paintings seem to be generalizations of reality rather than faithful reproductions, so why is Impressionism so uniform.
And, while there are definite conventions, I do note a fair amount of variety among different titles.
Witness the differences between the Van Helsing series and Inu Yasha or Lupin III. I can easily tell these were done by different animators, even though they use the same conventions.

Seriously, though, I see it as just amatter of what the animator/s felt like producing. For every bit of "Gundam Wing", there's "Voices of a Distant Star." For "InuYasha", there's "FLCL". It's more than imagery to be considered, IMO. Style points count. I wouldn't cross the street to see "Gundam" if you baited me with hundred-dollar bills, but I'd crawl nude over broken glass if you told me that Shinichiro Watanabe was working on a new "Cowboy Bebop" script, and needed my blood for ink.
The big eyes is simply so they look cute not to insult westerners.
Like other people have said it is the style that is uniform but the themes are not.Their are animes that in every gener of film out there.Hell there is even porn anime which is quite disgusting.
Anime is far from uniform. Whoever made this ballot should check out more variety of anime instead of looking at the cheap US stiched-together remakes like Robotech, and Battle of the Planets.
