I can't tell you how many stupid questions I have been asked about the US, by people from other countries. It seems that when an American is lacking in knowledge we're all dumb and ignorant, yet when it comes to foreingers it doesn't seem to matter, they're just given a pass.
by mindy on Wed Jul 19, 06 7:27pm [+]

Ditto what fiddle said, you'll find people who are ingnorant in any country and others who are not.
by mindy on Wed Jul 19, 06 7:30pm [+]

A bit of a sweeping generalisation dont you think??? As fids said, every country has its fair share of idiots, I can see yours does already. eek

Ahh, sorry! Forgot you Americans don't understand irony!(joke)
Of course it's a sweeping generalisation and perhaps a tad hipocritical?
Damn, forgot the commer after OK!
And for the record I'm British, the country that's spent the last 20 years or so importing American ideals abnd culture:-|

Right and that's why people come from all over the world to study at our universities.Perhasp we don't travel as much as the rest of the world but the most of us are not ignorant.
by Corrupt on Thu Jul 20, 06 8:32am [+]

Yeah, pretty much.

Is that a problem? IC_tune

I guess the world expects Americans to know about their country while these countries know very little about other country (other than the U.S). Let's face it, off the top of your head, most of us know very little of Peru, Belize, Nigeria, Laos etc etc. i.e leader, currency, GDP.

When these countries learn that Americans know little of "their" country, well then "Americans are insular and ignorant". I guess we know who the real ignorant ones are.
by ClosetIguana on Thu Jul 20, 06 1:33pm [+]

No, most other countries just aren't important enough to know about. People tend to learn things that they need. Considering that neighboring states in the US are as powerful as nations, we usually learn more about them than foreign lands.

LoL just proves the ballots worth with that remark. Maybe you're just ignorant and unaware of what happens elsewhere beyond own elitist life or region. Carry on living in your bubble!

^Ah, the little boy is angry at his insignificance.
