Okay. So my truck may not be rated as feul efficient (22 mpg highway, 18 mpg city), but I have increased fuel efficiency by what?--minding my driving. A speed limit of 65 miles per hour is just that--a limit. Also, it is perfectly legal to drive slower in the right-hand lane (U.S.A.) where the speed limit for tractor-trailer rigs is 55 miles per hour.
In doing so, I have increased efficiency to 26+ miles per gallon.
Another helpful hint is don't drive unless you absolutely must. Plan your usage. Drive conservatively.
I know this may not set well with oil companies, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Another thing that doesn't sit well with oil companies is not filling your tank all the way. If they see people putting more gas in their cars, they know people will pay the price. Just put as much in as you need and drive less and use conservation techniques so you don't need as much. These one day a week gas boycotts like the emails going around call for are BS, because the day after the boycott everyone is going to buy the gas (and more) that they didn't buy the day before.

Regular car maintenance will help too. Tune ups and regular oil changes will help more than most people think. Same goes for tire air pressure.

But back to the ballot question, I already drive an efficient car but I do have a less efficient truck. I wouldnt drive it any less because I only use it for work/recreation as it is.

I think that for many people the price of gas is not important. They don't have a choice. The reality is that some people will have to give up other things. I live in a semi-rural area now and the bus service is virtually nonexistent, and many roads are unpaved so....{bikes are out}. But apart from that some people only have the car they have, they aren't making a choice to drive a 1983 suburban but that is only what they can afford and they NEED the size {for family} and four wheel drive.

Some choose to live on "the bus line".

True. And in some places there is no bus line.

I completely agree Grumpy_Person. Conservation plus vehicle upkeep saves money and resources.
