WHY AREN'T WE HEARING MORE CRITICISM OF HEZBOLLAH IN THIS WAR?

Israel warned civilians of lebanon to flee well before they attacked, they avoid hitting civilians whenever possible, and only do so because they are striking out at legitimate military targets which are intentionally placed in high population areas.

Whereas hezbollah has launched thousands of rockets, all of them at major cities with no military significance. They weren't trying for legitimate targets and missed, they were aiming exclusively for women and children.

And yet, whenever excessive attacks on civilians are mentioned Israel always bears the brunt of the blame, and then they apologize and reassert their committment to avoiding civilian casualties. Hezbollah is rarely if ever criticized for this, and of course they never make statements to that affect, either apologizing or promising they'll be better in the future.

And on top of this most nations will not recognize hezbollah as a terrorist organization, and the UN, which has officially criticized Israel plenty, hasn't managed to come out with any words to condemn hezbollah.

Doesn't this seem a little biased to you?

Ofcourse the liberal international media wants to please their audience so they criticize Israel for accidentally killing civilians and say nothing about Hezbollah intentionally killing civilians. It seems to me that only America really supports Israel the rest of the world could care less what happens to them.

Got to hand it to hezbollah, primitive savages that they are, they've mastered one skill: manipulating western media outlets.

They set up shop in an orphanage for crippled children, firing hundreds of rockets at israeli cities. Israel is unhappy with this situation and wishes to change it. But there's a catch, israel responds and they kill a bunch of kids, they don't respond and they get to watch more of their kids die. The terrorists know full well that the media will downplay israeli casualties, while accepting any number hezbollah offers them for the amount of their own dead without question. There is literally no winning if you're on the israeli side, and no way to lose if you're with the terrorists. They're great at PR.

But it's nothing new, islamic terrorists having been masterfully playing the puppeteer to the western medias eager puppets for decades now. It's a great relationship they enjoy.

I just don't get why the media is so eager to help these animals.

IMO, the deserved condemnation is probably being masked by Israel's actions.

While Hezbollah's actions are not justifiable ('terrorist- style rocket bombardments on civilian locations), I believe they are being eclipsed by the invasion of one sovereign state by another. The sheer volume of destruction is skewed and this is what draws attention.

Yes, biased from a lot of media outlets.

Why? I'll make guesses:

a) It is more controversial and therefore more appealing and attention-grabbing to criticise Israel.

b) Israel's actions are more blatant, whereas Hezbollah intentionally hiding in civillian areas is more subtle. i) The media outlet may not have picked up on the relevance of the deeper circumstance ii) The most simplistic analysis is more appealing to the general audience.

c) The world expects better from Israel because they are a nation-state, whereas the world may expect less from a terrorist organisation like Hezbollah.

d) Some media sources have a leftist bias (not too sure about this one, but it is worth considering).

Corrupt- I don't think the problem is limited to non-Western sources. I find CNN, for example, has varying problems on this issue.

herzog I think the media in general has a sympathy for the devil complex and that is why they hardly criticize Hezbollah.Just look at the way the media covers common criminals like murderers, rapist, robbers etc. There always talking about what a horrible childhood the criminal had rather than how the victim's family is suffering.
by Corrupt on Thu Aug 03, 06 7:59am [+]

Cathexis- Hezbollah crossed the Israeli-Lebanese border first. Something which is not exactly harped on by most media sources for some reason.
by xxxxxxxx on Thu Aug 03, 06 8:00am [+]

I'm hearing both sides.

Nonsense. Just more distorted neo-con propaganda. Hezbollah has been criticized plenty, and if any nation has ever been given a pass in the American media, it's Israel.

Soc ... this conflict didn't start last week. Or last month. The media is taking one arbitrary event and calling that teh starting point. One could just as easily claim that the starting point was when Israel was using drones to assassinate Hamas and hezbollah leaders.

Of course, they'd be wrong, too, as that is another abitrary point.
by Cathexis on Thu Aug 03, 06 8:23am [+]

Cathexis- Indeed it the peace process severely crumbled apart several days ago when Hezbollah crossed the border. The conflict is of course one that stems back a long way. However, Israel had withdrawn from Lebanon quite a while back. Israel was no longer occupying any Lebanese territory, and Hezbollah fired up the conflict again by crossing the border.

where the heck are you kids getting your news from anyway?
by Jyl on Thu Aug 03, 06 5:32pm [+]

Hezbollah hardly have the capability to aim specifically at Military targets, whereas Israel (with their covertly transported American technology) do. Also, Hezbollah are a terrorist organisation, its expected of them. Israel should know better.

as for "they avoid hitting civilians whenever possible, and only do so because they are striking out at legitimate military targets which are intentionally placed in high population areas."

The accuracy of their targetting systems must surely be in doubt after their direct bombing of a highly visible UN compound? Either that or they must be suspected of doing it deliberately for an alterior motive.. ?

Yes, but it's understandable. Hitting civillians is not Israel's MO, so when they do get hit, it makes news.

Terrorist organizations' MO is to hit civillians. No nothing really unexpected or surprising there when it does happen.

" I believe they are being eclipsed by the invasion of one sovereign state by another."

Lebanon has waved its sovereignity the minute it claimed that it don't hold itself responsible for Hezbollah's actions from their territories (because they didn't know about it...)

" Hezbollah hardly have the capability to aim specifically at Military targets, whereas Israel (with their covertly transported American technology) do. "

Some towns Hezbollah bombs do have military bases near them, but the vast majority of attacked Israeli civilian concentrations aren't any where near military bases.
