But I don't think it would cut down at all on the number of rapes, P_F. Rape is a power crime that takes on sexual overtones.

The reason the governemnt won't legalize it is: As one Police Chief said: "nobody would ever get married." The Government PROMOTES marrisge because it keeps men from roaming the streets with no responbility. When men have no responsibility they tend to get into trouble and cause trouble. Just look at your Black city neighborhoods as an example. Also marriage is a key to the economy. When people get married, the buy a ton of stuff: New house, new furniture, new apliances, new carpeting, new china, etc. Then they hae kids which causes them to buy even MORE stuff: Kids clothes, school supplies, day care, christmas and birthday gifts, toys, a bigger car, etx. Also with no marriage, most women would end up living in poverty. Even without marriage women WILL HAVD KIDS. The cost of which will keep her in poverty since it takes 2 incomes these days to support a family. Of course marriage DOES NOT benefit men in any way since they end paying for everything and nothing in return for it except, Honey, I have a headache! Voted : Bad idea I actually like the idea cuz then even the ugliest woman who men shudderingly shun could experience the utter sweet joy of being held by a man. It's wonderful, I tell you. As for lessening rape, that would not be the case. In countries where sexual taboos are less than in the USA, such as some Scandinavian countries, incidences of rape of women and other sexual abuses have skyrocketed and are much higher than in the USA. That is because men from these countries do not feel as constrained from extreme forms of sexual expression as they do in the USA. Women who live in countries that have open views on sex say that it benefits men but that the women pay the price. Swedish and Danish women say they live in fear of sexual endangerment. I like the idea of subsidized prostitution for men and women BUT I believe it would ultimately fire up repressed sexual anger at having been unwanted that SOME men and SOME women feel motivated to control at this time. Newly freed sexual rage will not just be confined to the prostitute’s bed. And what about gays? If we are to be so “modernized”, subsidized prostitution must be offered to them as well. There are some gay men no gay man would look at. Subsidized prostitution would unleash hell on earth for women and men. Simply legalizing it would be even worse because then you have the added factor of enraging the poor who cannot afford it. One of the reasons a women can go to a grocery store in America and not be constantly sexually harassed is because of our "less open" views on sex.
